is this a normal thing to happen on a s3t? trying to find an oem replacement and a new isolator but i cant find them anywhere im on a tight budget and want it back together asap. any help is always appreciated thank you

Best deal is BWB sponsor American Sport Bike. His bracket has no air cleaner mount but is stronger than stock. He has isolators, too.

Improper installation is what causes the OEM Front Motor Mount to break !!!

i got the bike with that mount, its got a big bore kit cam a mukini carb and some other mods idk if that would be a factor into it failing? i looked on American Sport Bike but there mount is out of my price range. ive already removed the remainder of the mount and all the plastics, does anyone sell a OEM mount? I looked on the classifieds and i cant find anyone with a good used one still for sale

You have to make sure the mounting surface on the front of the head is good and use fresh hardware to mount the new one.

It's an odd setup. It's friction on a planar surface with the normal force applied by the huge bolts into the head.
If that surface is flawed, the force will be carried bu the bolts instead of friction and the bolts die.

Just "armchair quarterbacking" here but it looks like someone cut off the airbox support and polished the remaining mount.
Perhaps they didn't put it back on correctly as Buellistic above was suggesting.

Seriously examine that head for any flaws before proceeding.

the head looks fine the sides of the head where the mount goes tight against is fine also. i bought new bolts today, the top of the head does look like its been grinded and polished on, not to worried about that because ive put 5k miles on it since ive bought it and everything works great. i hit a huge pot hole and right after i had a terrible vibration , pulled over and i found that lol it didnt happen by just normal riding i should of put that in my previous post.

Remember the frame changed in '99; there's a '01 X1 mount on fleabay for $40, but I don't know if it'll fit your need.

it looks identical to the one i have that broke, would you know if the engine mounts are different? my bike has the thunderstorm heads not sure if that makes much of a difference

Austin:

the mounting surfaces under the broken mount must be dead flat and in the same plane if not you get to do over.

also I presume that you have the FACTORY mounting bolts, using any others may lead to a do over, as NATE explained the mount stays put because of the clamp force the bolt puts on the mount

FWIW, park the bike and get the billet mount and replace all rubber mounts ( 2 rear 1 front ) American Sport Bike has all needed items.
cutting corners may cost you more in the long run.

the failures that are commonly seen are due to over load, loosening bolts, or bad rubber mounts.

I won't use a stock mount ever after i saw the first mount break on someone else's bike. I wont mess around because the motor is held up by the front isolator and the 2 mount bolts. If the motor dropped like it looks like it did. It ripped the rear mounts up and they need replacing. I would have a the head check for flushness of the mounting surface on the head before i bolted anything into place. That is a very critical part on the bike and caution should exercised!!!

I didn't have the mount break, but broke the bolt that clamps the mount to the head. I replaced the mount with the billet one from American Sport Bike just to be doubly safe.

I have the mount as well...I'll swear by it.

IF you can find one, you could always looks for the early S2 motor mount.

The S2 mount has the cross brace and is likely stronger but one of the bolt holes is smaller. The 1996 S1 has a mount like the S2 with the correct bolt holes (the 96 S1 is the only Buell that has this mount).

My mount faired well...but the cylinder head didn't. I upgraded both.

You can also add a stenzel bar that is claimed to reduce or eliminate this issue. I have one on one of my Buells and I can see how it works. They were made in Germany but not sure if they are still being produced.

I've change out 2 or three broken mounts for others.
As Olddog said above it is IMPERATIVE that the mounting bosses on the head be flat and in the same plane. I'll bet money that the bosses on your head are NOT flat.
If you look closely and use a straight edge, I'm pretty sure you will see rockering from top to bottom on the right boss for sure and probably on the left as well.
This must be corrected before you put ANY mount back on.
