He says"These are very rare and hard to come by you may never see another" You may never see another if you never go to the Barber Museum,or Buell Homecoming. |

This is an earlier 4 speed with the ACT anti-dive front suspension, not the later 5 speed model with the upside-down WP forks. It's a nice looking bike. I expect greg_cifu may put in a bid! :-) -steve |

Finally outbid. This seller is usually offering up Vincents and other high dollar collectibles. I suspect his reserve is more than I would consider reasonable, with the Arlen Ness provenance. Ness once had 27 XLCRs. Still may. I'll keep watching it. I'd like a non-runner. |

Very nice, except for the turn signals, and those are easy to get, it looks very original.. I would think he would get 5-6000 pretty easily. Early bike, 4 speed, one piece front fairing, M1 forks, Works shock and the Corbin seat so it is not real early. We got those seats in trade, Mike Corbin got a bike we got 400 some seats. |

Curacao? I've seen a couple of them, I like the bodywork, but not that flippin' seat back. If that's removable, that would be ideal. Predecessor to the Uly seat back, which also is a bit on the homely side. (To my taste...) |

The RSS used a single seat and is nicer looking although this bike with the seat back down look just fine to my eye. When it is up there is a passenger on it so it don't matter |

If anyone has a 4 speed rolling chassis w/ no bodywork or engine, I'm quite interested in finding one. |

This thing is not moving at al, I suppose it won't get much action until the end. |

I have been looking at that auction. It says 1990 RS 1200/5. The 5 speed didn't come out until 1991. Been trying to get my brain around that. |

It is a four speed, the guy is incorrect. |

Bid ended at $5855 without meeting reserve. I wonder what unrealistic reserve price the seller has? I've looked through many sales of the RS1200 over the last ~5 years, and this price is right inline with what they've been going for. Was anyone here the high bidder? |

I emailed the guy asking "How much he wanted to get for the bike?". His only reply was "There is no Buy It Now Price." He didn't offer to disclose the Reserve, and I didn't ask, as that seems to offend some sellers. My $5500 bid wasn't enough. Apparently $5855 wasn't either. |

<crickets> I was the $5,755 bid. The bike has all the normal issues: bubbling resin/paint at the gas cap, previously leaky tank (repaired), some stress cracks and miscellaneous chips. That and the turn signal holes left me staring down the barrel of a repaint. Budgeting $1500-2000 to do that right really tempered my willingness to bid any higher. |

I dropped out early. Too much to do for what I expect is a value for the seller at welllll over $6K. |

Afternoon All, It was # 16 of 95 built in 1990. Hey! I thought the exhaust ended in a flat muffler plate not the open 'race' plate. I am the third owner of a 1989 RS1200 and could not get it jetted correctly until I installed 13 muffler plates and a closed plate at the back. I believe the bike came with about 7 muffler plates and a closed flat plate on the back. Am I right or wrong? |

I think you are right . . but I'd have to look at my pics and manuals from the 80's. I still have all my SuperTrapp spare plates and stuff. |

So, who bought it? C'mon, fess up. I want to hear their thoughts. The bike in Topeka last year was a bargain--cut frame or not. I wish it hadn't been white. |

I believe the bike came with about 7 muffler plates and a closed flat plate on the back. Am I right or wrong? I remember for sure that the last plate on the back was a closed plate. For the count of 'open' plates - or diffuser discs as I believe SuperTrapp called them - I don't recall exactly. I seem to remember using the one full pack of discs that SuperTrapp sent with the mufflers. Whether that was 6, 7, or 8 I can't say for sure. HTH, 1313 |

I have some left here . . . may have a full pack. They came, as I recall, in a small clear plastic bag. I think I have the stock closed end plate. |

I don't remember how many came on my bike when new, seems like it might've been eight. I think it has 18 on it now. I just looked at my NOS muffler, it has five diffuser discs and the closed end plate. |

I'm 99% sure you can still get discs from Supertrapp. I got a set of 12 additional a couple years ago through Drag Specialties. Just need to know the diameter (IIRC the one on Buells is a 3"). Get the longer screws, too. You'll need them if you're going to stack a ton of discs. They have screws that will handle up to 24 discs. You should also be able to get the closed endplate - but I think 'trapp calls it a "spark arrestor", at least that's what's stamped into mine. |
