bought XB rocker box to replace on my2001 X1.It has a spacer in the middle with butterfly valve.Can I do away with this part?

Delete the middle portion with the umbrella valves, the XB cover replaces the top two levels/layers of the rocker box.

In retrospect I think much of my blow by after the XB rocker box conversion was due to my insistence that I run the oil level towards the top half of the dipstick indicator, let your bike run, then ride it for a afternoon, then check the level. It will self regulate to a middle or lower point then not really "consume" much oil from that point between changes.

I just did this to my s1, very easy job, only takes a few hours, and really makes a difference on well the bike runs. breaths better, no lekas, and motor has a healthier sound, not louder, just sounds like its running better.

Just make note - on the S2, I had to use two front rockerboxes. The shape of the tank bottom interfered with the rear rockerbox placement of the PCV valve so I had to use another front one, putting the valve at the back/bottom of the cover.

Put BLAST PVC valves in my OEM rocker covers before the XB's came out ...

Like my way better because "i" could put them where they best should be !!!

I used XB valves in my S2T.It gave me an excuse
to buy a 1" drill bit.Everybody needs a 1" bit!

I've heard that before.
Odd, not all of them interfere. My 95 and my son's 96 didn't have any fitment problems with the front and rear RB cover.

Not sure about the gasket for XB rocker box.The X1 gasket had a small grove in the middle of one side the bottom was flat.The XB has one side flat but a small ridge that sticks up on the other side.Has anyone ran into this issue?

I didn't notice that sort of difference in the gaskets I just did on my XB. The new gaskets were different (skinnier and stiffer) than the ones that came out, old ones being a more pliable rubber with a channel.

Post pics, if there's a question about orientation I'd put the flat to the bottom, but that's just me.

XB gaskets should fit the XB rocker boxes, you should just have the outer perimeter, the little rectangle in the middle and the four fiber gaskets for the top hardware (per side). There have been changes in the material and design over the years, presumably each rendition being better than the last...

Just to clarify here as well, if the lower rocker box seals are good I don't redo them, you can cut the cost of the repair and why disturb a functional seal? Plus then you have to rotate the engine and take the load off the rockerbox you're working on, it's easier to do once and leave alone afterwards. New lower gaskets are a thin, stamped metal gasket, according to my most recent experience ('03 or '04 maybe?).

I used a little high temp rtv on my Cyclone to back the bottom metal gasket. Haven't had to redo that since.

On an X1 you be better off using Hylomar if you don't trust the metal seal. Since Hylomar doesn't have silicone it won't kill your O2 sensor if it makes it into your exhaust emissions.

Littlebuggles it is the outer perimeter that I am not sure about.The old on had a channel as you referred to however the new one has a ridge instead of a channel.It looks like the mated surface should have a channel for it to fit in.

Dmac ~ there are two xb gasket types early and late. I just went through this. My S1 has the smaller early, the late gasket looks like a thick black slice of rubber that stands on end in a very deep channel.

The top, the rocker cover is what does the squishing, it has a flat face in order to make a good seal. As long as you line up the bolt holes you should be good. I backed mine up with Hylomar in hopes that if I'm abusing my bike by not letting it warm long enough the additional sealer will save me from myself and I won't have to do the job too often.

Run your finger along the inside edge of the new cover; if you find any burrs or rough casting where the surfaces make make contact carefully remove them. I found several rough spots on the inside edge of mine, the machined flat surface should be left alone, just check the inner edge of the lip.
