Well just like the title says my x1 left me stranded yesterday, thankfully a good friend of mine is a great Buell/HD master tech and we narrowed the problem down to a failed ignition switch. Everything works when the key is in accessory mode but when turned to ignition the lights turn off and everything is dead. Here is the problem I'd really like to still be using a Buell key after its all fixed but ignition switches on ebay are 100 or more. My buddy suggested using a HD dyna ignition switch which will use the same barrel type key at half the cost and he can get it alot faster through the dealer he works at. I would just like to know you opinions and advice and has anyone else had the same problem.

Had the same problem, I spliced the wires so that when the key was in accessory mode, everything was on. It worked until I got a new one off of eBay. Kinda simple once you figure out what it was, mine was tryin to tell me it was going bye bye but I didn't figure it out till it was too late.

I hate having two keys.

And I do not feel the love with the Drag Specialties ignition switch. The key doesn't seat deep into the switch and is sloppy loose.

Yeah, kind of a pain in the arse, but $150 from HD, I'll put up with 2 keys rather than patronize HD.

American Sport Bike sells a better switch than HD for something like $30. You should be able to get it rekeyed to match your existing key.

Mine crapped out and had every intention on fixing it. In the interim I hooked up a rocker switch behind the fly screen I had laying around and it's been like that a few years now. Maybe one day.

Yep, bought one from Al last fall for about $23.95,when splicing to the stock pigtail connector you need to reverse the 2 wires with the white and black tracers or the ign/acc mode will be backwards.

I just drilled the switch apart and cleaned all the contacts in mine. Works fine to this day. Not much to go wrong in there, just put contact grease in when you assemble it. I drilled and tapped the housing to have two screws so I can take it apart it ever needed again.

Yeah the switch looked burnt on mine, thought about drilling it out but picked up another one for cheap.

Running Al's switch. Works great. Great price!

I have a switch on mine. If someone's gonna steal it, having to use a key to start it wont stop them. The bike can be hotwired with 1 cut and something to crimp the wires together.

4 guys and a pickup could haul it away as well.

1 year with nothing but a switch and the bike still isn't stolen.
