I warned you guys I'd be asking a lot of questions about my new bike!

I feel naked without a tach on my 2000 Cyclone, and found one from a 2001 for sale, part # Y0501.L. Is this compatible? Is it simple plug and play, as far as the wiring? (I understand I have to find or fabricate a new dash panel.)

Thanks!

Dave

As long as both bikes had carburetors, you will be fine. More to the point, both bikes must have dual fire coils so you get the correct rpm shown. Fuel injection brought single fire coils, with half as many pulses per revolution. As to wiring, look for the pink wire. Power can come from the switch, ground can be a new wire to the frame, the illumination can come from the speedometer light, and the pink wire is the signal. If there is no pink wire in your harness, run one from the pink wire of your module.

In 2000 when I bought my M2, I bought a Tach. from the dealer and a dash.I gave them the wrong # and got a Tach. for an X1. Installed it, worked fine(extra lights for X1 I didn't need)was running dual fire. Two years later switched to single fire Ign., Tach. still worked fine.Just my experience

Hey there. In my manuals it looks like the tach # would be 67455-99Y and this is from a 2002 Buell parts manual.

The Cyclone tach OR the X1 tach work fine.
I've got a X1 tach on my M2, been there since 2000, works perfect.
You can use the extra light for someother use like a undervoltage indicator.
Of course you have to add some circuitry for that.

I bought that dash and a tach from the St. Pauls ebay store when they still had the tachs. Saw one on Badweb classified a week or two ago. I like it a lot better with the new tach and I love the way the dual gauge dash looks. For $10 plus the $13 for shipping they want it's still worth it. I had trouble finding the correct rubber gauge cushions. There is two different M2 cushions. One for the older M2's that have a separate gauge cup that marries to the dash (this is the single gauge dash), and the other for the dual gauge dash which has built in gauge cups. I found that the older style cushion can be trimmed to fit and will look identical to the right one. I wish I took pictures because it's hard to explain now. 20 seconds with a pairs of scissors and I was in business. I posted a link here some time ago that is a .pdf for the tach conversion kit instructions. It gives complete details on installation and part numbers. I'll try to dig it up.

I put one on my 2000 and it was easy. The connections already exist in the wiring harness under the tank and all you have to do is match up the pin locations in the harness and done.

Cool! You guys are great. I can tell I'm going to like this whole Buell thing. I snapped up one of those dashes. Thanks Bigslug!

I also ordered a new tach from ebay.

What are the cushions I need? Any sources for them?

Thanks!

Dave

The cushions are just a foam rubber ring that slips over the gauge and them pressed into the dash as the gauge is mounted. I found one each at two different local H/D dealers. Like I said, one was the right one and one wasn't but it was an easy mod to make the wrong one work for me. From the link I posted above, "Obtain new cushion (Part Number
Y0604.01A3) from kit."
