yesterday i was riding down rt 529 in jersey going 50mph 9which is the speed limit) and someone decided to pull out in front of me and then stop in my lane(all 50 to 60 feet in front of me!!!) i managed to lock up both wheels and slide towards them thinking i was going to die luckily i slid sideways and just scraped my pants on the rear bumper. all i want to say is F%^&K everyone who does not look where they are going... ohh and thanks god that i avoided that ,and for my brand new micheline 2ct tires i think they might have saved me.. i hate new jersey drivers |

Welcome to the world of invisibility! I'm glad you survived all that without any issues. Treat all drivers as if they are morons & ATGATT! Chris C |

"...i hate new jersey drivers.." Welcome to my world...You need an extra set of eyes while riding. By the way, I do occasionally ride in that pineland area. Nice roads but ahole drivers and a lot of hidden driveways. Oh and locking the rear brake on an X1 is one hell of a feat. You must have been standing on it... Glad you're OK. |

>>> i managed to lock up both wheels ... luckily i slid sideways and just scraped my pants on the rear bumper Glad to hear you avoided catastrophe. It sounds to me however like you locked up the rear only. In a panic stop, the front brake has all the power as the rear wheel will be coming off the ground at some point. Try practicing panic stops using just the front brake, start slowly, second gear only until you can get the rear tire just lifting off the ground as you come to a stop. Don't touch the rear brake. I had an experience similar to yours and learned how dangerous the rear brake can be, nearly highsiding me. Since then, on good pavement, the front brake is all I use in a panic type braking situation. Even on wet pavement traction on the front tire can be enough to put you over the bars via front brake. Be careful. On dry asphalt, it would be near impossible to lock up a front tire on a Buell. (Message edited by Blake on July 12, 2011) |

Sorry to hear about the close call. There are some really bad car drivers out there and we have to ride defensively to stay out of their way. But please, don't shoot at anyone's tires no matter how badly they drive. My motto is FIRO "Forget It - Ride On" because we never know when we might encounter a truly crazy person who could escalate matters to a dangerous level. I'd rather live to complain about it than lose my life over a fight that could have been avoided. |

We can only justify that if we ourselves have never done a dumb thing. I am so out of luck on that score! |

Ouch!!! Glad you made it out ok. I think Jersey is THE WORST for bikers. Did you calmly explain to the person what they had done wrong?? |

New Jersey is the sh*ts, all right. I commute 100 miles/day going into Harrisburg, PA and they are not much better. Everyone is ME FIRST and I finally had to change my hours to try and avoid getting killed. Ride with your fingers on the levers and keep your head on a swivel. |

This type of thing still happens to me occasionally.. but in the past year since buying a HI-VIS yellow riding jacket, I can count on one hand the situations I've been in where I felt like not being seen was the cause. I highly recommend dressing like a power ranger when you ride. |
