Dude asked for a photoshop rendering. I happened to have actual pictures and no photoshop experience. WTF?

Andy - no you wouldn't. Your mother raised you better than that. Christ, look at your OWN "reasons for riding a Buell". Get real.

Whoever the Buell God is, please answer me this: Where's the line on customization?

Nice can of worms you opened up S1owner. This forum is starting to suck. I thought there might be real Buell riders, but it looks like just a bunch of poseurs.

Owens,

>>> I just love how people are quick to point out the things they don't like.

This is a Buell enthusiasts' forum, not a hardtail custom chopper forum. The negative responses are to be expected.

>>> 1125R wasn't made as a touring bike, but people still do it and no one says anything of it. Including you.
So go figure, ole double-standard Blake.

I don't follow your point at all, but am not surprised to see you once again aim your post towards the personal. No on is criticizing anyone for using the bike or riding it. If anything, that's one redeeming aspect to the story. At least it gets used.

If someone characterized the 1125 as a touring bike, I'd disagree with that as well. Doesn't mean you can't tour on it or that anyone here would have any kind of objection to someone touring on it. It just isn't built for it.

Tavis,

There is nothing I can see that is practical about that bike. It, like so many other hard-tail customs is primarily an exercise in artful design with functionality and performance taking a back seat to artful appearance as intended by the builder.

The ergonomics are horrible. Straight pipes are horrible for riding, not to mention illegal. The headlight and its mounting are off and don't look good at all to me, but I've never liked rectangular headlights on a motorcycle, ever. The frame modifications and swingarm to chain-stay modifications are awful looking to me. Instead of poking into the middle of the frame member, they should go to the convergence point under the seat, a good truss hard-point to carry the load.

All just my opinion.

If that is what the owner wants then good for him. Even Jesse James had to start somewhere.

I'm no "God" or anything of the kind, but I'll answer your question Tavis:

>>> Where's the line on customization?

Concerning this forum and most Buell sport bike enthusiasts, I'd say the line for most of us where customization turns distasteful is conversion of a sport bike into a low-rider cruiser or custom chopper, especially one with no rear suspension.

Worse even yet is when it turns out to be an ugly poorly executed custom.

So for me personally, your friend's custom is off the charts in yuck. If he likes it, that's all the matters.

.

you're right, she did. But if you came at me and my real Buell enthusiast friends/riders like you have here...I would have no issue putting you in your place and speaking my mind.

for me (and I think most here), the line becomes when form trumps function in the build. Especially when the form is distasteful.

a bike such as that simply does not belong in a Buell enthusuast forum anymore than a Sportster does.

Jesus I was just asking for pics for knowledge and visualizing I did not want or need a war. I like all types of bikes all styles yes I may not like certainly things but will always respect what effort and engineering others have labored over. Rodent sorry to get you cornered into a mouse trap.
Does your buddy still have the old tank I would buy it if he is interested.

holy crap, yall click on rodents profile and look at his bike. I would def call him a Buell enthusiast.

THAT IS NOT HIS BIKE. HE POSTED IT SO THE OP COULD GET AN IDEA ABOUT A LOWERED STRETCHED S1. SAME REASON I POSTED THE STRETCHED DRAGBIKE.

its nice outside, why doesnt everyone go ride instead of bicker on a forum?

It is nice outside.
I can't ride mine right now because I'm not finished putting my bike back together. I put thunderstorm heads on it. It didn't come with thunderstorm heads, I put them on anyway because I'm some kind of an that hates my motorcycle. It also didn't come with a turbocharger, but then again - down with Buell sais I!!

This forum has taught me quite a bit. I didn't know all the fuel injected bikes already had those heads on them stock. There's a good description of the paint to use on my tank somewhere. ( mines bubbling.....again ) I made a bookmark to it. And most importantly, if I want to hang out with REAL bikers, get off the computer.

A lot of you seem really cool, but the dicks make it not worth it. If you guys want to see the rest of my turbo buildup pm (is that right?) me and I'll send you some pics. Everyone else - yo, peace out.

"a bike such as that simply does not belong in a Buell enthusuast forum anymore than a Sportster does."

Really? Then why is there a HD section on this site?
And by your statement then there should be no other talk on this site unless its Buell.....but people post this stuff all of the time with no backlash.
I get that its not everyones style[ and as I stated, there are things I dont like about it. ], but you shouldnt crap on someones thread if its what they are interested in.

Eh, its whatever.
online arguments, no one will ever change anyone elses opinion on this things

Trust me, I'm not at all worked up about any of this....I truly have bigger fish to fry. But the chopper/lo-rider/stretched bike thing has come up a few times again lately, and the same question is always asked by someone: "Why do people here hate on them?" I'm just answering the question: "Because this is a Buell enthusiast website!"

As far as why is the an HD section? Well, same answer! "Because this is a Buell enthusiast website!" Keeps the HD stuff out of the Buell forums. Just like the QB keeps the crap out of the bike forums etc. Heck, even the title of the HD section makes fun of them!

As far as that bike...I stand by my opinion- it's ugly, poorly executed, and the owner has clearly put his idea of form over the beautifully engineered function of the bike. But at the end of the day, it's his bike and if it makes him happy that's all that counts! But if you came at me like Rodent did in person, I'll gladly tell you what I think of your bike in person!

Peace and grease, let's all go ride!

If you want to post about choppers, this aint' the place.

I do agree that Preybird was way out of line. I missed his post until reviewing the entire thread just now. My bad.

holy crap we agreed! : )
Why is it not the place though? Yes, its a Buell site yada yada yada, but so much other stuff gets posted that I fail to see the real dilemma here. Its not like its causing a huge influx of bobber dudes to join up and 'pollute' your website, just other buell fans who like different sorts of bikes

BTW, I really like the truck : ). Also, the bike may be an S1, but check out the original S2 rotor on it. The forks are from an S2 as well.

That bike is not my cup of whiskey, but the dude didn't do anything that can't be put right at some point in the future. I love Buells, but come on, it's not like the guy hacked up a Vincent.

Where's the line on customization? I'm not cool with anything that degrades the performance/functionality of my bike (I also don't appreciate skulls, iron crosses, dolphins, dragons, kittens, etc). Note that I said MY bike. As for other people's bikes; I don't give a sh*t.
