My 98 S3T has a Wileyco exhaust on it. It sounds good, but is really loud. On a long ride it gets tiring. I don't have the original factory exhaust. Are there quieter options out there that someone could reccomend?

Vance and Hines SSR2 is quiet. They are getting harder to find is the only downside.

Have you repacked it?
With fresh packing it should be tolerable.

Anything re-packable is quiet when its repacked.

SS2R is LOUD if its worn out.

And they like to crack, at least the aluminum ones do.

Email Erik Buell Racing. I got a brand new M2 race header from them at Homecoming '10 and I remember a couple EFI tuber race headers there too. Might be able to pick one up, and I've seen a couple folks posting Buell race mufflers for sale here and on ebay lately. My S1W and my M2 both have race exhausts on 'em. I just got a Kerker for the S2 and am trying that out...sorta like it so far, but still mucking with jetting. Had a race can on it, but it's now mated to the M2's header : )

Or if you're REALLY good, Kevin made a Drummer for tubers many years ago in a galaxy far, far away...

+1 above

Sounds like your packing is out. I also have a WileyCo and mine has seen better days. (much better days) I am in the process of rebuilding it completely. In the mean time I have put the 9 year old, less the 100 miles on it, stock exhaust can back on the bike.

Man do I miss my aftermarket exhaust. Stock is so quiet, it pretty much sucks.

Oh yeah,

So you need to drill the rivets out of one end of the can and open it up and see what you are dealing with. if it is just the packing that is gone, it is an easy fix. However if the tube inside has been rattling around and is damaged you got more work on your hands.

I am in the process of building a new front endcap and pipe for in the can.

Koz, check out Dennis Kirk #44-03534 universal baffle.

1/8" holes on 3/16" spacing.

Its what I went to several years ago after having mine apart many times for repair,(at idle mine sounded like a car hops coin changer)lol.

Much heaver material and won't self destruct like the oem "screen wire" tube.

"Vance and Hines SSR2 is quiet."

Quiet is a relative term. It is quiet compared to a D&D but it is hell of a lot louder (even with new packing) than the stock can which in my opinion is the quietest option. That is if you're willing to trade off decibels for lb-ft.

all of the aftermarket pipes are LOUD.....some just more than others. loud pipes piss people off. legislation around the country is getting more stringent. keep it up and everyone will hate us. this is not opinion, but fact. besides the state of california, denver colorado, here is another example. our "rights" are soon to be modified everywhere. those who think loud is better are mistaken........

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++

New Hampshire cracks down on loud motorcycle pipes:

Riders in the North Hampton, New Hampshire area found in violation of the state’s noise limit may be fined and even have their motorcycle registration suspended. This comes as police unveil a new program under the tagline “Loud Noise Annoys”, an initiative to curb noise pollution caused by excessive motorcycle pipe volume.

SuperTrapp mufflers are adjustable for sound by varying the amount of discs in the outlet.

What do you repack with? I looked for a Wileyco website but nothing comes up on Google. The exhaust has about 6,000 miles on it so its probably in need of a re-pack.

Any dealer that stocks packing for off road vehicles(atv/dirt bikes) will have what you need.

I've got to pipe in here.....ha ha, get it "pipe". : )

Sorry. : (

I used to think that "loud pipes saved lives" until someone showed me the obvious. People (or deer) don't hear you coming anywhere near the amount they hear you going. The pipes stick out the BACK of the bike.

Go to American Sport Bike for repack kits. Al has 'em, I think they're around $25. Speaking of, I need to repack my S1W's can...didn't realize how loud it had gotten till I packed the M2L's can. Whoops, heheh...

Best T-shirt I ever saw:

"If loud pipes save lives, imagine what actually learning to RIDE the thing could do for you!"
