Yep, changed the oil and have gearbox oil bloody everywhere. The chin fairing appears to be part of the seal, not a good design me thinks. I have checked the workshop manual and its not very clear how this goes back together. Any one got a pic or a better expoded drawing for me. Thanx in advance. |

The chin fairing is not part of the seal. If you have oil coming from the chin fairing bolt hole, it is because the primary gasket is shot. Do yourself a favor and spend $30 with Al at American Sport Bike and buy the updated primary gasket and the shifter gasket while you're at it and save yourself lots of future headache, oil leaks and bolts backing out! |

I agree on primary gasket as cause of the leak. My X1 was purchased w/7500 miles on it and oil was leaking thru the LH chin fairing bolt holes. I replaced the primary gasket and the leak stopped. |

Still not answered the qestion of an expsive drawing or picture. There is no leak thru the primery gasket. Its the spacers for the shaft I may have put in the wrong way round. |

Try to get your hands on a parts manual for the exploded drawings of the bike's assemblies. |

If you have the OE primary gasket, that is the problem. I had no problems w/my bike until I removed the chin fairing for some reason. Only thing removed was the fairing, and it leaked from the fairing mounting bolts after re-assembly. Took off the old fiber primary gasket and put on one of the new-style rubbery ones, and all was well. Section 6.2 of the service manual has a good picture of the shift lever 'stack' of spacers and bushings. The front through bolt of the two just has a spacer between the fairing and primary cover. Hope this helps, Dave |

I have found that a THIN layer of good silicone sealant works wonders with most gaskets.}} |
