I recall reading they switched from paint to color impregnated for certain MY bikes, not sure which MY and model. I'm fairly sure the '00 X1 plastics are painted based on little stone chips...

Yep, my '00 X1 and '01 S3 are painted, IIRC the XB's is when they started with the color impregnated plastics, but I could be wrong.

Yes, '00 X1s are painted. '01 and '02 X1s are color-impregnated.

01 X1 here and the parts are color throughout. No paint
