Last week I had my unhooked the wires from my speedo and tach to install a new dash mount plate. Today I took the bike out and my speedo/odo do not work. The lights come on and the mileage and trip odometer numbers are present but the speedometer needle does not move and the mileage does not increase. I checked the connections on the back and they are all correct and the fuse is good. Could something have came loose inside the speedo when I had the wires off? I checked the manual and it showed performing a test with a tool that I don't have. Suggestions? |

Looks like you have an X1 So more than likely your speedo sensor has konked out. It may be a coincidence OR you shorted it out on accident... |

Yep X1... forgot to include that. I unhooked the battery before doing any work but shorting it out somehow did cross my mind. |

Then it could be one heck of a coincidence. Try pulling the sensor out, clean it off an try again. You may also want to check your fuses. I had a blown fuse as well that left my lights on but killed the speedo... |

Fuses ok, cleaned sensor and no luck. I agree the sensor seems suspicious but since I was messing with the speedo I'm thinking I jacked something up. Anybody ever had one of these apart or are they made where you can't disassemble them? |

Its a pet peeve of mine when people have issues or questions and never post a final update so........... Bought a new speedo sensor from American Sport Bike and everything works fine now. Too big of a coincidence I must have shorted the old one out. |

They are notoriously flaky. The solution is to either get the updated part (likely what Al sold you) or put a 5v regulator on the power wire of your existing sensor before it blows. Starting in 2004 all Buell models output 5v regulated from the ECM to power the sensor. Prior to that (XB9 and tubers) it was 12v unregulated. |
