Hey folks.

I bought my bike used, and it seems as if it had the recall, but ended up with a WP shock back on it before I bought it anyway.

I have tested the shock mounts with magnets, and the front mount is steel, and the back one is not steel. Anyone know where I could find the reinforcement package? Part number, or one sitting in a garage parts box, lurking dangerously?

I'm a good sized fellow, and will ride two up pretty regular. I'd hate to get my small sized passengers beat up from a broken shock.

Anyone have a clue how I can get my hands on this part? I'd like to keep the shock, just reinforce it.

Thanks!

If you have a WP shock AFAIK there is no reinforcement package for it. The recall and SRP (shock reinforcement package/shock repair package) had nothing to do with the mounts on the bike, it was a collar that went around the the shock.

Here are the various shocks. The recalled SRP showa is the middle one (minus the SRP in this picture).

Here is the rear half of a shock with the SRP, the front half of the shock has something similar.

If you indeed have a WP you should be good to go. Many people prefer these over the showa it seems, I personally don't know much about the WP shocks but I'm sure some here can tell you more about them.

Edit: Seems WP shocks were recalled too, here is the bulletin http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/B024B-263571.pdf

Anybody know what was so different about the 99 X1 shock that it wasn't recalled?

Both the front and rear ends of the newest shock are wicked beefy.

If I remember correctly the picture of the middle shock was one that replaced the WP, and did not require the SRP. I had the 16.5 Showa installed on my 97 S1 in 2001.
