Funny thing happened on the way to look at a mid seventies vintage KZ100; I found a killer deal on a 2000 M2, fell in love with it, and bought it instead.

Here's the rub; I wanted the KZ for touring with my wife (and for nostalgic reasons - rode one cross country in 1984). I've been looking at saddlebags for "sport touring" but there's so much out there I have no idea what to get. I'm pretty sure I want something that mounts under the seat because I can't see that my wife is going to want to sit on saddlebag straps on a long ride.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in Advance

You can bolt S3 saddle bags right to an M2. The only issue is cost.

Ventura also sells a back rack that holds a pretty large rear pack that can swing 'in' to rest on the rear pillion or 'out' to the luggage rack and allow a rear passenger...

Be Careful putting something under your seat! If you have alot of weight (I'm not calling you FAT!) but things can easily rub tires when hitting bumps and such!

oops! My bad! I kind of thought he was going to stash some kind of soft bag underneath the seat!

Not to disagree with Spiderman, but you cannot "bolt on" a set of S3 bags. The frames are different and you won't have any support for the rear of the bags. You can make up a set of brackets to make it work, but it's not a bolt on deal if you expect them to survive.

That's still a problem with most saddle bags on the M2 tho. If you run the strap under the seat the bags can hang low and with the minimal side on the M2 tail the bottom of the bags will camber in and rub the tire. Ive been there. Its not cheap but I opted for the Venture Pack rack and have never regretted it and your wife's back will thank you too. ( http://www.ventura-bike.com/ ). they are custom for your bike and American Sportbike has them too. If you are going to buy new Saddle bags then just pony up and get this instead.

Have you done the upgrade Km?

If so post some pics, while the frames are different it is my experience that the bolt up is rather easy...

I've been using the larger Cortech bags on my M2. Psycrow is right about the way almost any saddle bags hang down on these bikes. I ended up fabricating a simple bracket at home out of 1/8" X 1" mild steel. I made a U shaped item that has a slight twist at the bends so as to match the angle of the tail section. Drilled two holes to match up with the license plate holes and attached it there. I have the solid American Sport Bike license relocation kit on my bike and not the OEM plastic mount so it's a rigid set-up. Bracket keeps the bags from moving inboard onto the rear tire and can be put on or removed in a couple of minutes. Use it mainly on camping trips.

I'll try and post a pic soon.

Safe ride,

+1 on the Cortech bags. I have the tail bag along with the saddle bags mounted on my X1 right now. The saddle bags attach to each other with wide strips of velcro and can be set up in a variety of positions, just set 'em where you want 'em and lay down the velcro. They expand to a pretty hefty size.

-1 on Cortech saddle bags with velcro straps holding the flap on the bags. The velcro doesn't hold at high speeds and flop around in the wind. : (

Otherwise they're good...

I use the round duffle that snaps to the saddle bags and haven't had any issues with the velcro since the duffle covers the two wide straps. I can imagine there is an issue if you only use the saddle bags. I've got one of the factory lap top bags that have the mounting strap that goes under the seat. That one is good for hauling small stuff on day trips.

Safe ride,

Buell specific bags from ebay, maybe a dealership somewhere has some... or try Wolfman in Boulder, CO; the Buell bags I bought have their name stamped on the box.

Excellent! Thanks for all of the great tips.

Oh yeah, and neither my wife nor I are fat, and she looks HOT on that pillion!

Spidey,
I'm at about 85% on putting it all together. I'll shoot pictures this weekend. I've got one more bracket to fab up to keep vibration to a minimum. It's been a bit more work than I thought it would be. I bought the bags and main bracket on eBay. Small parts from the Dealer. Biggest issue was trying to order a narrow bag cover through the dealer. One side was trashed. Parts lists all show a 96 S-2 number. Court helped me get a good number. The bike has an S3 fairing on it now. Next step will be to turn it into a single seat version like my S2. Then it'll be time to paint it again. I did flat black about 3 years ago, now it's everywhere. Time to go somewhere else!
