Are these two batteries interchangeable, are the terminals in the same location?

I believe they're the same, though you can get batteries with +ve on either side. My X1 has always had a battery with the terminals the wrong way 'round and there is *just* enough length in the cables to swap them over so it fits.

Sportster batteries are exactly like tubers, but with reversed +/- terminals

I've had much better luck with H-D/Buell OEM rather than top-of-line Yuasa.....

The S3 and M2 take the OEM SPORTSTER Battery PN 65898-97B ...

A friend of mine just replaced the Battery in his XB12R which is PN 65948-00 which is the same size and +/- terminals placing as the SPORTSTER Battery ...

Thank you for the answers... The original battery finally crapped out, 8 years, not a bad run.

To the guy who wants to cover his X1 battery, I wouldn't do it, it's close enough to the cylinder without holding in any more heat with some cheesy cover. Spend the coin on a Pegasus clutch cover, you'll like it much better. Just my .01

There is a cover made specifically for the X1. IIRC it's a two piece plastic deal. Every so often they'll show up on e-bay or the classifieds here. Don't know for sure if a dealer could get one. I wouldn't mind having one myself if I could run across it cheap enough. It hasn't really bothered me in almost nine years but maybe one day.

On the battery cover-- I hung an ad in the classifieds looking for X1 parts, someone responded and may have a cover. You are welcome to post on that ad if you want--
