I'm too cynical to buy the "Trump's got them this time" optimistic pundit view. Been hearing it for years.
And not stupid enough to buy the "walls closing in"-or other pre packaged mantra of the day. The daily lie sells well to the brainwashed, but a cynic should see that as definitive proof of puppet parrot falsehood.
Otoh I could be wrong. A buddy thinks this whole mess is going to crack open with multiple impeachments in Congress and even prison time for some Swamp creatures.
I dunno.
I don't think the Party legal theory will fly that you cannot investigate a politician because said investigation is an illegal campaign contribution to any political opponents. ( Trump is accused of soliciting such a contribution )
If they try and cram that one down our throats then I predict physical reaction. They basically are declaring that they cannot be judged by mortal man and as Gods the law does not apply to them.
All of this does seem to hinge on Trump's motivation for wanting to investigate Biden. (Honestly, I'm not sure he wanted Joe Biden investigated, or just Hunter and the company he "worked" for.) It sure seems reasonable, that to understand the motivation, you would have to get pretty deep into what allegedly happened that should be investigated. How you do that without completely destroying Joe Biden is beyond me. The obvious defense, assuming he was calling for an investigation into Joe, is to prove that it appears to involve corruption of a US official, that Joe actually publicly bragged about. All you need for a defense is that it's plausible to think there was actual corruption. The Biden video alone does that very effectively. Skip to about 2 minutes in if you are impatient.
Oh, Tom, you’re so naive. Only democrats can initiate corruption investigations. If anyone else does it, it is an abuse of power. Didn’t you know that? I mean, if there’s one takeaway from the last few weeks, that’s it. QED.
The Troll in Chief strikes again. Rachel Maddow today was in high dungeon.
I'm waiting for the grand inquisitor to summon Donald, and get, "busy that day, but I can give you few hours the day after" then on the rejected day, give awards for flower arrangements or better, pigs. Or Amish work horses, that "do an important job, like Congress ought to".
I'm certainly not Jewish. That anyone would think calling me a Jew is an insult is telling a lot about themselves that I'd be ashamed to admit. That I don't find it at all insulting to be called a Jew might mean many things, but I'll go with the belief that you lying about me doesn't insult me. It damns you. I may be offended, but certainly not by shame at a falsehood about me.
That I consider Jews the canary in the coal mine of life is based on thousands of years of history. But. Prejudice against any people makes for a lousy community to live in in fairly direct proportion to the stupidity, laziness, and hate of the prejudiced.
And I'm biased by my liking for the American tradition of the melting pot. We are a stew of disparate peoples, our common humanity & common heritage, one of rejection of tyranny. Rejection of the Old Bad Country's class, race, & religious evils. Almost all of us are from refugee people.
Irish fleeing English genocide. Norwegians fleeing Nazi conquest. ( or the aftermath of Nazi conquest, terrorism, and bad feelings about the former Resistance ) Chinese fleeing Maoist terrorism, genocide, ongoing... And on and on.
We're the wretched refuse. It's our common ancestry. We are too stubborn, too faithful, too honest, to live under despotic lies.
Our Gadsden flag can be, and certainly was, interpreted as "$%&# You!" By the tyrants of the day, of the centuries, of the future.
My great grandparents fled the kaiser, went to russia, then fled the ethnic purges in russia, on my father’s side, and the armenian genocide on my mother’s. There’s some scot in there too, but I don’t think they fled that country. Maybe they were afraid of no trees? Or the damned English
Greta is a victim. Her story is that the doom predictions have driven her to the "autism spectrum" and stolen her ability to care for other people's feelings. Her childhood was stolen by rich, powerful , evil, men.
That's what she says, not some bhole pundit. And I have little doubt that is honest.
Then this child of celebrity, think low level pop star's kid, with a frequently absent mom, gets used and probably abused, by rich, evil, men, who want to make a bigger fortune selling solar farms and trade carbon credits.
I don't doubt her sincerity. But she's mentally ill because of Global Warming lies told her her entire life. And exploited by those same liars that are making big bucks on a now known dishonest political movement.
These child abusers on a nigh galactic scale, arrange for yachts to transport her around the Atlantic, while their handlers, pr men, and agents fly ahead to set up press conferences with the Person Of The Year!
A 16 year old rich girl.
Sure the words Trump and classy, or "delicate sensibilities" or "sensitivity to chivalrous behaviour" go together like deep fried Twinkies and a Keto diet. There's precious little overlap on a Venn diagram .
And Trump picking on a mentally ill little girl is absolutely a thing worth mocking him for. But he also knows that. And while I don't buy the spin that he's a super genius playing chess so many moves ahead that his opponents are doomed, ( I think Wiley E. Coyote is a closer fit ) his ability to get the Media that hates him to act out like spoiled brats is incredible.
Like getting the crowd to change "12 more years!" to troll his legion of haters.
One real take away from that election is that the press was claiming it was too close to call. When the actual vote happened, it was a landslide for the conservatives. Sound familiar? For some reason, their polling is heavily weighted toward the liberals, probably by design.
I’m rather suspicious of politicians who betray voters by switching parties. I rather suspect that when this happens it’s because they’re not right/left wing enough and are being challenged in the primaries. Maybe I’m being cynical, but we are talking about politicians. By definition a self-serving group of folks.
Communist aggression in his Union and in the real world, taxes, the Bay of Pigs betrayal, and it seems LBJ's policies led to open endorsement of Goldwater.
Better and more compelling reasons than, perhaps, wanting to keep your job & not voting in a way the majority of your bosses ( The voters who hired you ) disapprove of. Or maybe not screwing the people who elected you is a pretty good reason to switch? There's also the possibility that Van Drew actually is paying attention and thinks that the Party Elite Leaders are happy to have him lose, as long as they stay Party Aristocracy. They've openly said so, after all.
The reasons for switching Party may be important, far beyond "loyalty". There are Never-Trumper Rs who are "defecting" too.
Mayor Gazillionaire switched Parties to buy an election. N.Y. Dem leaders wouldn't have him, they had a candidate chosen. N.Y. Rep leaders didn't have one they thought would win, so they took his money and let him buy them, temporarily, anyway. I think his Indian name was "Steals salt shakers" or "Mayor Big Gulp".
