Remember, this is from the crowd (not just the letter writers but the Times’ editors too) that is better, smarter and mostly morally superior to conservatives. Just ask them.
It’s no secret that more than a few Republicans (at least as of now) can’t bring themselves to support Donald Trump. John Kasich, the governor of Ohio, probably won’t even attend the GOP Convention, which is being held in his own state, such is his distaste for Trump.
But if there’s anything that might change the minds of Republicans who don’t like Donald Trump, if there’s anything that might move them over, however reluctantly, to the Trump camp, it may turn out to be … liberal sanctimony, the kind Charlie Pierce and the holier-than-thou letter writers to the New York Times have fined tuned to a stomach turning state of near perfection.
Liberal smugness is never attractive. But it is always annoying. And before this is over, it may prove to be a kind of magnet – one that draws reluctant Republicans to, yes, Donald Trump.
I can picture the bumper sticker: Charlie Pierce (and smug libs in general) convinced me to vote for Donald
If that happens, there won’t be enough meds in all of North America to calm the man who would be Howard Beale.
Kind of a shame . . . this does nothing for anyone . . . protects no one . . .says nothing about responsible gun ownership and likely sets 2nd Amendment Right initiatives back 10 years.
Their timing . . . . with a spate of dead folks . . . some rightly, some wrongly . . in the past days . . . absolutely sucks.
They obviously missed the "cover and concealment" class . . . .
Ponder this . . . . and I'm just babbling based on my own personal experience and training . . .if you had the slightest inkling you needed "protected" would you show up with no body armor?
Ohio is "open carry", hence, the prominent display of firearms.
If I'm going to war I'd want body armour but if I'm going to be traversing the streets of Baltimore a firearm will do. Personally, I avoid harassing people carrying firearms.
I'm seeing more and more open carry in Ohio. A discrete leather belt holster showing the print of the gun but mostly leather is no big deal, but hanging the handgun out on display is, IMHO, a little bit rude. It reasonably makes reasonable people uncomfortable. It's legal though.
Ohio CCW laws are quite reasonable, so it's pretty easy to CCW. And a LOT of people are.
Tactically, CCW is a much harder problem for a criminal to overcome than open carry. Not sure which is a greater deterrent though. Probably both in their way.
You guys... come on.... rude? seeing a pistol or rifle... how is that rude? I don't know what that sounds like... but it sounds like something I probably would never say to your face. (I am a skinny dude, but I identify as a muscle builder and kung fu expert..)
Aren't huge muscles as intimidating as those supposed assault weapons to the liberals...I mean, why do they need such big muscles in the first place? this isn't gladiator or Troy. I think they should limit the size and capability of muscles for citizens, we don't really need them so big. (sarcasm)
I know it makes a large percentage of the population uncomfortable. I don't need to rub their noses in it, and I don't see it as my role to "fix them".
If I was gay, I would not make out in public with my partner for the exact same reasons.
Heck, I'm not gay, and I don't make out with my wife in public for those reasons.
It's just being polite.
You *know* a lot of open carry people are in the "look-at-me look-at-me look-at-me look-at-me" camp. It's legal, and their right, but I think it's a little rude.
MSNBC is focusing solely on the negative of the RNC. Its as if they didn't hear any of the speeches that were virtually all inspirational. It is truly sad but expected of how corrupt and one sided the MSM has become.
There are now zero reasons why one should not vote for Trump against Criminal Hillary.
To be honest... most rebuttal's went pretty well this morning... Cuomo and others kept pushing and pushing but got nowhere with their questions... it was nice to see them getting frustrated when their spin wasn't working.
Now it is the "Plagiarism is plagiarism with or without intent"....argument from the left. Can't believe Left are complaining about 50 out of 1400 words that duplicated Mrs Obamas' speech from 8 years ago... very positive words no less. But could care less about Hillarys' lying to face of the families of those who died in Benghazi.
Has anybody analyzed where Mrs. Obama borrowed her words from? Is it double plagiarism?
My question is this: WHY... since it took the media about an hour to figure this out... WHY couldn't somebody on Trump's staff have googled previous speeches to discover this before it happened?
Democratic convention may be more fun I guess... star studded?? I hear BLM and BP will be there too.... protesting? I wonder if they will close off the city like they did with the Pope.
"My question is this: WHY... since it took the media about an hour to figure this out... WHY couldn't somebody on Trump's staff have googled previous speeches to discover this before it happened?"
In fact, all they had to do was use one of the dozens of web sites specifically designed for this purpose. Even high school and junior high school kids know to do this...
The media and democrats are blowing it way out of proportion. Guess they have nothing else to latch onto.
They're even poking fun at her accent. All silly and unfounded. It's obvious the liberals are triggered by this rally and the micro aggression is sounding off all over the internets and media. It quite the display as they pick apart minuscule details like they can't (or don't want to) hear the message.
Anyway...the Obama administration has sure brought the nation together...
Growing up in NJ we always saw Donald Trump as being some weird big mouth with a gigantic ego, a Howard Cosell-type hair do and he was known for being able to borrow a lot of money and going bankrupt a lot.
Thirty years later, to see this same bozo being the Republican candidate for President, is just surreal.
You know, I always saw Trump as a bit of an butthole and blowhard, but seriously...Hillary? Who in their right mind thinks corrupt, lying Hillary would make a great president?
I suppose if you'd like to import 3rd world problems, like the idea of a socialist globalist U.S. and nanny state politics we'll be in for a hell of a ride.
