Folks, it finally happened. I laid my bike down. The damage is pretty minor but the tank took a pretty good hit. It is scraped just below the letters on the left side, and a couple of the letters are coming off now.

I am thinking of a little resin and some KBS Seal on the inside. My concern is that you can't always tell if fiber-glass is sound. It may look fine but have cracks and weak areas. A new tank is $435, primed. I thought about getting a used tank, but it makes no sense replacing a tank because it might have hidden damage with another tank that might have hidden damage.

As far as paint goes, what would be a reasonable price for re-painting the tank?

Basecoat-Clearcoat paint ain't cheap.

Repainting my S3T bags Blue Streak.

1 Qt. paint = $127.00
1 Qt. Clear = $36.00
1 Qt. Activator for clear $55.00
Plus misc. materials and my labor.

I'd check with some auto-body shops in your area, some still give free estimates.

One of the local shops says it would be about $180, but they have to see the tank first. I am going to get some pegasus decals to put under the clear-coat. He says that will be a bit more.

$180 sounds very reasonable if they do a nice job.

BTW the fuel tanks and body work are made of abs plastic not fiberglass.

Correction. KBS and Kreem will not work in plastic tanks. I will have to think of something else. Is there any trick to make sure the paint does not bubble?
