Frinzo, I have managed to keep the front end down, this bike is NOTHING like the STT. Very tame, mild mannered and easy to ride.

Hello Everyone,

I purchase a 2001 X1 last Saturday and can't wait for the summer to come. I live in the Richmond, VA area and occasionally ride down to the beach area.

I have been out of the Buell scene for about 7 years so I have no idea where to find a good Buell mechanic. I used to take my old Buell to Colonial Harley in Colonial Heights but there service rate is out of this world. Can anyone recommend a good Buell mechanic in the Richmond or surrounding area?

I'll have to watch this forum for any rides that are posted to see if I can meet up.

Jeremy

Guys,
Hope all is well with everyone. Need some help figuring out what I need to do though. I got the bike running but on the ride, the tach went haywire (clock went out and both instruments went to zero while I was riding). Only other thing I notice is that the battery isn't holding it's charge, the voltage has dropped down to 10v. Oh and the battery is brand new. Any ideas on what's wrong...

Good Question Dave,

Fortunately I haven't had that issue yet. I do remember once that Matt had a problem with a "Stator" connector or something like that. Maybe he can comment on it.

Jeremy, nice to meet you. Most of us are DIY guys as we've been burnt once or twice by "tha man" so, recommendations might be sparce at best. That said, there are a few that can sort of be trusted. "Jr" @ Hampton Roads Harley is one, but you even have to watch him sometimes. (no offense Jr, but you know I'm right)

Good Luck! -looking forward to riding out your way sometime soon.

Hey Guys...

Anyone watching the Race this Saturday? I think the races are being broadcast on Speed TV at 2:30 (Friday's race) and at 6:00 (Saturday's race)

I plan on pumping up the volume over at my place with some cold beers and brats on the grill if anyone is interested (actually even if no one is interested, just means more for me)

But it would be nice to have a couple other Buell enthusiast along to cheer on EBR and the return of Danny Eslick!

David,
it's good to hear from you again. WELCOME BACK to the US!!!
sorry to hear that your having electrical problems.
power to the IC is cut by the ECM at 10.0 volts to conserve power for proper operation.
as Mel mentioned, what you want to check first is your "77" connector. it's behind the front pulley cover, on the right side of the bike.

here's a link to the best 77 connector document. this should explain the issue and answer most related questions.
https://docs.google.com/view?docid=d4rbxwr_20dq5kh f

American Sport Bike sells some connectors that are the OEM fix for this issue. http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/17390.html
this connector is an HD part, and it comes with a new VR. however, it does not come with the BOSCH Crimper tool that your supposed to use.

but there's other cheaper and arguably better ways to do it like a Raychem Heat Shrink RF Splice Kit
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/142 838/647970.html?1313534545
thats what i did and reccomend. i got mine from Lowe's.

Dave, I had those issues you are talking about and it was the battery connection, the screw came loose and was shorting out on the battery itself. It eventually got so hot that the bolt melted in half and I lost connection totally...that's how I found out what it was. I would look there first since the clue is you just had the battery replaced.

Dave,

When i had charging issues on my bike it ended up being a chaffed wire agianst my engine case (near the oil pump), wire went to the voltage regulator. I had to replace my Voltage regulator and havent had a problem since.

Hope this helps.

Xb12mel,

Thanks for the welcome. I have purchased a service and parts manual and plan on doing most of the work myself, but just in case it is something over my head or I am not comfortable with just wanted to know what my options were.

Since most of you are DIY guys do you ever get together and perform tech sessions?
I also have a Honda VTX 1800 and guys in the area get together once or twice a year for tech sessions at someones garage and help each other out with projects on their bikes.

I have found the tech sessions very helpful and informative. Plus i get to learn more about my bike and I know that it is being maintained properly. Every time I talk to s service person at the local Honda shop I get the feeling they have no idea what they are doing. I would also like to learn about the ECMspy. Back when I had my first Buell I never remember there being anything like the ECMspy, you just bought the race ecm.

well the bayside dyno shoot out was eff-ing TERRIBLE.
i called ahead last week to make sure i could get my bike on the dyno, even tho it is not dripping in chrome and H-D badges everywhere.
so i show up, and first i was told 'v-twins only'
then it was 'no imports'
then, it was 'no sportbikes'
then it was just 'no, go away'
maybe it was that my ten dollar bill was just the wrong color of green or something.
in '08 it was free, and they made it happen. -shrug-

so basically it is a dyno shoot out between v-rods and sportsters only. that should have been put out on the radio advertisements and when i called to ask.
i should have known better.

Nilly, sounds like we didn't miss anything. Does anyone have plans for the 2nd Sunday in May? I was thinking of getting some folks together for a Poes Pub run, some new faces in our crowd and it would be good to meet everyone.
