Hi Mel: Did Mike ever give you the dope on the 4/26 run to OBX?. I was the guy who initiated it with Mike. We's meet at the rest area on the VA/NC state line on 17 (by the dismal swamp canal)in the am, then ride through Lizzy City and out to OBX. Let me know. |

Okay, Can I get details. How far? Is this an overnight deal? I wanna go, but have to work it out with the Wifey or it could get ugly in the smith household. |

It's a day trip back same day, I'm not sure how far down the Carolina coast but Nags Heads is the general area. Meeting at the N.C. reststop on rt 17 just south of the VA. border. |

Folks: I would like to propose a meeting time at the rest area for 10 am on the 26th. My hope is that this will give everyone ample time to get there. The ride to OBX will be about 45 min to an hour. First stop will be Kitty Hawk HD, then on across the bridge to embrace the chaos. Please post up here anyone has concerns, I'm open to suggestions. |

Yeah... Momma's is a bit nervous about bridges with the "grates" on them. Does the Kitty Hawk Bridge have a section like that? I don't need her getting spooked on the back! |

Hey guys, I got a question. Is their anything for kids to do (looking at bikes count). I can definitely go if I can have them follow. Otherwise I have to be nice for a few days. |

No grates on the bridge to the beach. Is their anything for kids to do Depends on how much cash you give them. J/K It's the beach, man. The kids will remember it forever, as long as they get their toes wet. Plenty of public beach access. |

Well.... We'll have quite the posse and it's good to know if my wife wants to dismount then she can still hang out with the other women. Fellas, you might not realize it, but we could actually be earning "Brownie Points" for this ride!!! |

i'm curious as to the gas mileage "sweet spot" and this OBX run provides an opportunity to take this from the chalkboard to the road, while getting multiple results, and eliminating all the other variable factors of the gas mileage equation. i'll offer to facilitate this experiment by recording it all on paper..... and bring the calculator. we're all gonna be riding, and gas-up anyways....... |

OK guys, so tell me. Is 10am good for you on the 26th? I haven't heard anyone remark otherwise, so I'm assuming its good. I just want to be sure we all hook up together in one spot before we throw down. BTW: I posted a baby picture of my Hammer on my profile, so you'll recognize me when you get to the rest stop. |

Yankee 10:00 is good for me and judging by the response you'll be leading a pretty good size of riders from HRH. Mike |

Yup! But where are we meeting prior to riding to the Welcome / Rest Area? I would suggest that folks from the Pen who are riding meet at, you guessed it, Mercury McDonalds. We ride down to the South-Side and meet up with you folks at? SSHD? Then we ride out as one group to the Welcome / Rest Area where we meet up with the folks from C3. I guess the biggest question is how long from SSHD to the Rest Area? We can compute the meeting times based on that. Any Comments or suggestions? |

Mel It's about 30-45 minutes from the SSHD to the rest stop in N.C. You peninsula guys could meeting up and ride to the rest stop and us southside boys can either go directly to the rest stop or meet at a point more central. Showing up at SSHD is kind of out of the way to the rest stop, but not that bad |

how about the bay-side HD (portsmouth)? is that a more central location or less out of the way? say around-abouts 0900 ish, so we can rally the... THUNDER, THUNDER, THUNDER CATS! |

Matt Bayside at 9:00 is good for me and we can just run down George Washington Blvd to Deep Creek and out to 17S (old 104)

Its just one rest stop Mel, Southbound, Once we all meet at the rest area on the state line (17), I will lead the group from there. We will stop and top off all our tanks just inside Lizzy City, then we'll be off down 158 to Kitty Hawk HD. Its kinda the "receiving station" for the chaos to come. From there, it will be on to the Nags Head area. Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare to make a strong impression, I was the only Buell there last year (that I saw). A swarm of them is going to make quite a statement! (Message edited by flyingyankee on April 16, 2008) |

I'm good, I know where that is, I had to stop there when I got caught in the rain coming back from NC. I like the 70 speed limit though. I get to let loose a little.
