Looking at Lightning Longs. Dealers are selling the current XB12Ss in the low 9s. Any information on coming model year lineup, changes, etc? Loved my '04 XB12s but hope the longer wheelbase will smooth things out a bit. And I think ones in the showroom now come with the Pirellis. I might wait if there was a compelling reason..

Anniversary year, does that make a difference to you?

In order to make sure everyone's expectations are kept realisticly low... Harley Davidson didn't offer anything really new for it's 100th anniversary. In fact, it wasn't until the following year that several significant updates were made.

The only thing that we (the public, not the dealers, the dealers are not given any information that is not made public) do know that is coming out is the dirt line, and we aren't sure of which model year they will hit the streets, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a new street bike that may or may not come out. If you can get a good deal on a SS, and you want the bike, go for it.

Why doesn't Buell show their new models ahead of time to see public reaction to their upcoming models? Why does everything have to be a surprise with them?
In the auto world you get to see new up and coming models sometimes a year or two before they come out. Sometimes you see concepts that never come out.

The car business is bad about doing that. Take the 05 Mustang... Everyone knew the specs on it over a year before it debuted. This created a lot of interest in this upcoming car, but stole a lot of sales away from the 04s. You pretty much couldn't give one away.

Bike shows are the place that they may do "proof of concept" bikes for show, some of the models may never make it to production. But they really may have only been testing say a suspension component rather than expecting it to be a production bike. (cars do this all the time) H-D has announced what will NOT be returning for next year, but no mention of what is coming.

Other then the XB9R, what did they say will not return?

See, even us dealers are out of the loop.

XL50, VRSCR, VRSCX, FXST, FXSTD, FXDWG, FLSTSC, FLHRC, XB9R.

All Buell said was that we could order 08 carryover models from the XB and Blast families. Any new models will be announced at the dealer show in July and ordered then.

This was in your Phase I ordering letter if you are a dealer.

Looks like H-D must have some cool stuff coming up too. Only one of the models listed, the FXSTD, has been a slow seller here.

With the exception of the XB9R, I haven't a clue as to what the others you listed are, well, other than a Harley of some sort.
Long list of Harleys not making it to 08.

Wait, is this the list of carry over bikes that you can order, or the list of bikes that you can not order for '08?

That would be a very poor idea if you were strategically positioned as is Buell.

IMHO,

It keeps up sales #'s

If you knew what they were going to put out in July. You would wait to buy in july. And not now.

Buell is smart not to show new models early. It keeps their dealers from getting stuck with "last year's bike" before the new one is even out.

Plus, who doesn't like surprises? *ducks*

It also keeps people from buying Buells, who are buying Honda's and Kawasaki's right now.

The Street Rod is the only decent motorcycle Harley has produced since I've been riding bikes. Damned shame to see it go...

Personally, I'd like to see a Firebolt Long model (XB12Rs, anyone?). My 6'3" friend was very disappointed there wasn't one in '07.

Dwolk,

The TT is based on the long, test ride one and I bet you'll give it serious consideration. After a test ride on it, a firebolt, and a XB12scg, I bought the TT, huge difference in ride on rough or gravely roads, smoother on smooth roads, great position for an older dude. If you don't like those back plastics, $20 will get you new reflectorsbrackets when you remove them and the support. The seat is incredibly comfy for a couple hours (I'm partial to dirt bikes), you can slide forward on the highway or way back for the twisties....I've been riding it more than my VRSCA, which I also LOVE !

Josh, it's the FLHR"S" that's not returning, the FLHRC is the "classic". I was surprised by this, in fact, the custom is a really cool bike. Kinda like the Street Glide of the of the Roadkings! I think Harley has some bobbers and choppers up their sleves, as well as the "new" bagger styles from CalifornIA. After all it's another anniversary year.

Rkutzner I couldn't agree more. I just think Buell failed in the marketing and styling on the bike. From a ride/handling standpoint, the TT is the best bike they've every built IMHO.

The TT KICKS ASS!!! I want a TT with Uly like bags(bout 1/3 less wide) a bit of a highway windshield, and two up seating. That TT would be the Paramount bike for me. It has the perfect amount of suspension travel. I just loved my few rides on that bike.

It's the shock valving (ride), do-all Uly tires, and dirt bike style seat that sold me. I test rode the TT and an SCG on some back gravely and dirt roads and the SCG sucked, the TT took it all in stride. It really ends up being a GREAT daily all weather go anywhere rider...even though as you said it wasn't marketed that way. My sales guy, after the test rides, was of the same mind and thoroughly impressed with the ride and handling of the TT.

For $20 I just ordered a regular Lightning left and right rear reflector and bracket. With the rear plastics off, it looks very much like a regular XB12S from any rear or side angle. The only other item would be removing the Uly style front fender and putting a regular one on that hugs the wheel. The look is starting to grow on me up front, though, actually considering removing the fork guards and putting on the Uly ones that have the fender across the back to keep the engine cleaner. Maybe some white rubber shark teeth off the stock fender will complete the look.....cool thing is everything interchanges so looks doesn't have to be a deciding factor.

I am w/ Jamie. I am going to be getting a new bike here as soon as my X1 is gone, and I love the Firebolt, but I am 6'3"-6'4" depending on who I am standing next to.. lol and I feel like a monkey F-ing a football.. and I don't want to buy a 12Ss and convert it over. I would rather Buell make a Long frame version of the 12R.. and yes I know it would mess w/ the geometry of the bikes cornering ability, but the Lighting models don't apeal to me much, and the Uly doesn't fit my needs... Come on ERIK.. make me a 12R long.. PLEASE.. But keep the Black w/ the Red color theme.. lol

Well, it doesn't surprise me that the streetrod is not going to come back for 08. I think that is probably one of the worst selling Harley models ever. Although, that may be an indication that the XR1200 is coming to replace it. That would be pretty awesome. Or, maybe HD just realized that if you wanted a good-handling Harley you should buy a Buell.
