75% city hooligan riding, 25% country twisties....running the full race kit right now and the power "hole" in the middle is driving me nuts....

real world reviews / comparisons from Odie and Kfab customers?

I have read the Exhaust shootout, just looking for more input....

I was in the same boat as you trying to decide between the same two muffler.

My first impression was to get the Special OPS based on the dyno graphs. Then I wanted the Drummer for the sound. But now I've decided to go on my initial instinct and get the Spec OPS because: a - more power over pretty much the whole rev range, b - costs $150 less, c - uses the muffler servo which means I don't need to buy a $40 emulator.

I'll deal with the sound. In fact, I think I'll like it more.

BTW - mostly city riding means that midrange is HUGE for you. The Spec OPS is second only to the D&D in that dept.

The Drummer with the race ECM and race filter has zeros holes or flat spots in the powerband. If smooth is important, this combo works.

i have also been considering this option! i still have 1 year left on my warrenty so just in case, i wanna keep the stock ECM and use the servo untill then!

The Econo Drummer still uses the servo i think! So its a toss up between the two!

I just sent my can to Kevin to do his magic and make me a drummer. I too did the homework and looked at the other pipes but it came down to $$ = power + grunt and I chose the new original drummer. The customer service is top shelf as well.

i was part of the exhaust shootout. man that was fun, even when all the work was involved. i went SS Drummer that same weekend. talked Kevin out of the pipe he had brought off of his race bike, and Al (and for alittle while Terry) tuned it.

2003 XB9R 93 horse and 74 pound ft of torque at the rear wheel. there was still some tuning left to do when we ran out of time. the only way that thing will come off of my bike is if i ever get the turbo setup on it i have been waiting on.

you wont be disappointed with a drummer and Kevin is a hell of a good guy.

i have only heard good things about odie though also, i just have no first hand experiance.

The really nice thing about either the special Ops or the original Drummer is that it's made from the stock can so I'm guessing the EPA endorsement stamp remains intact.

If I'm wrong about that, please somebody correct me.

If that 93RWHP was from the post shootout tuning session, remember, we still had the "happy" dyno Winpep SW loaded. As a rough guess, I estimate that the data was optimistic by about 4-5% or so across the board for all the tested setups. That would put it in the 88-89 RWHP on a better calibrated dyno.

Either way, those are very good XB9 numbers and the SS Drummer IS a very nice pipe indeed.

I am a well documented ignoramus.

Where is this hole of which you speak on the full race set-up?

I have the full race kit, 07 airbox and don't experience it, 06 XB12X.

I used to feel a slight "catch" at around the 4,000 RPM range, but I don't know that I would call that a hole.

The 07 airbox made that catch go away.

Am I it riding wrong?

I have the FAST intake system, race ECM and SS Drummer. The setup works outstanding. Hard pull off idle all the way to redline. Kevin is the man when it comes to mufflers! The build quality of the SS Drummer is second to none! It should cost $300 more than it does...but don't tell Kevin.

I went from race can to drummer for the same reasons... the 'hole' being the main concern. As a bonus, the drummer is practically plug and play with the race ecm as far as fueling (similar to the race can) but sounds MUCH better. I don't think you could go wrong with either pipe.

yes Al, thats still from the same dyno the exhaust shoot out was done on.

it has only been on the dyno one other time since then and it was 91 and not quit 73. the numbers were a little down on that one, but we also realised when i went to put some things back together after taking them off to hook up for the readings, that the front spark plug wire had been just resting on the plug. i would guess that would through it off a little since it was probably a little weak on the front.

even if we go with something less optimistic it is still very good for a stock 9 with a slipon and some tuning. ok ALOT of tuning. which i am still in debt to you for Al. i did appreciate the help getting it sorted out very much

I run the Drummer SS, race ECM, K & N, and American Sport Bike open air box kit on my '06 XB12Ss. Let me tell you, this thing rips. Extremely hard pull off the line and it catches revs much quicker. That doesn't even give compliment to the sound. Absolutely incredible, very deep and hard hitting. I decided to keep the chin fairing off the bike as I like the mechanical look of the Drummer stainless can. I figured why cover up such top notch craftsmanship.

By no means am I saying anything against the Odie pipe, just no first hand experience.

I have Odie's dual outlet servoless and it is plug and play on my race ECM with American Sport Bike open air kit. I kinda dig the big block sound as well. It is shorter and quite a bit lighter than stock, and the Uly runs much cooler after the pipe install.
