1.) Has anyone tried this? 2.) Do they use the same gauges (other than the printed face design), and would it matter? 3.) Anyone care to guesstimate the cost? I'm guessing it would only involve the actual windsceen assembly and the aluminum mounting bracket (unless the gauges do have to be changed to fit the bracket). I think the Lightning would look pretty cool like this... I prefer the "heavier", more armored look of the Uly screen, and it's obviously better at wind blockage. Thanks for any input! ~Swordsman} |

That does look pretty cool and the extra wind protection sure would be nice on the freeway. I'll be interested to see if it can be done easily. |

Swordsman, There were some previous discussions on this here. Somebody has worked out what parts would be required but I don't believe anyone's actually done it yet. You might be able to find the info by searching this forum. |

Is it possible to just drill holes in the stock flyscreen and attach the uly windscreen? What does just the windscreen cost? |

well here goes the wind screen is 59.95 ,( clear upper part) the flyscreen is also 59.95( lower colored part) the brakets are 23.97 . from what my dealer said is that the guage clusters are the same and the lights are the same so total price for major components is about 144 plus hardware . I called them , and i didnt look at the ordering book so this is the best of my knowledge . in october i was planning on doing the same swap so let me know how it goes. later dudes |

Umm, the above picture looks just like a clear speed shield has been installed. Wouldn't that be easier? It's less than half the price and its worked well for a lot of people, including me. |

Check out my Speed Shield thread from last night. The Laminar Speed Shield works great and mounts easily. Costs about $90 including shipping. Check their web site at "Laminarlip.com" and click on the speed shield box on the left. Scroll to the bottom of the page and there is a picture of the Lightning with the speed shield. |

04xb12s, the above pic is an actual Uly screen I clipped out and Photoshopped over the Ss flyscreen. Irideabuell, I saw that post earlier... it was one of the things that got me thinking about this conversion. Just my opinion of course, but I'm not crazy about the Speed Shield's shape. I like the longer, tapered look of the Uly shield and the fact that everything fits together exactly right (from the Laminar Lip pic it seems that the Speed Shield doesn't take the fly screen "bulge" into account, thus creating a gap... could be wrong). I also like the fact that it bolts on rather than using Velcro (never been a fan of using velcro or double-sided foam tape). Thanks for the advice, though! ~SM |

Swordsman, I knew that it was a Uly screen, but think it looks almost identical to my flyscreen with the speed shield. Doesn't the Uly have a gap between the two screens also? And I have also seen the speed shield mounted with fasteners other than velcro. Good luck with the Uly conversion! Post some pics when you are done, then I may think about going that route too. |

I can vouch for the 3m velcro pieces on the Laminar lip. I've had mine for a while and ride the interstate 5/7 days a week. Works great. It is made to fit the little bulge on the Lightning. |

Hmm. Just found this on American Sportbike. For only $5 more than the price of the Speed Shield, you can get an actual extended flyscreen. This is the 1st plastic one I've seen... all the others have been CF or FG, and over $200. Dangit, the forum keeps rejecting the link due to some formatting error. Oh well, just do a search for it, I guess. ~SM |

Well, I took the plunge! I ordered all the Uly flyscreen/windscreen parts from Dave S. today. Since all my body work is Line-X'ed I can have at it with my Roto-Zip and trim out the flyscreen to look right on my City-X. Then have it Line-X'ed, mount the windscreen and we will see what I end up with! I will post pics when done. |
