I checked tha KV and didnt find anything about ticking with the front brake. When i apply the front brake it will tick muck like a clock but faster and I can feel it in the handle bars . What is it ? the pads are still good and the rotor doesnt move when i grab it and shake, everything is tight and i dont think the rotor is warped . has this happened to anyone else ? thanks later.

The rotor should move a little. make sure that it still "floats".
Also check your steering head bearings.

what do you mean by float? the steering head bearings are good , no play and smooth. the ticking is only when I apply the front brake . Just remembered i got the tires replaced about 200 miles ago ( duh ) although it only started today and it is intermident . Also the bike still stops well.

the rotor should be able to move in towards the center of the wheel a little bit.
It is mounted with springs behind it at each point where it is bolted so it has room
to move a bit. Does that help?

yes , the rotor seems to be very stiff if not stuck in place . What would be the best course of action . break torque and retorque ? get new mounting hardware ? thanks.

cleaning it up with brake cleaner will probably do the trick.

Sometimes the bushings that are some of the mounting hardware for the brake disk wear out. This happened to my bike, resulting in a "ticking" like you describe.

My 04 XB12s does the same thing. I thought that the brake was clicking on the cross drilled holes on the disk. Maybe Im wrong. My bike has 2000 miles in it.

click? thats not right. look for your wheel weights, rotor bolts, caliper it's self, see if anything is contacting the rim or hardware. there should never be a click or tick! the only thing you should hear is the buzz in the master cyl. look at the pads also and make sure there installed properly. also ask you local dealer to inspect if you don't find anything. please do not write this off as "NORMAL". I have ridden to many XB's that have stuff wrong that people think is normal or have been told it's better this way.

I'm glad I read alot of these posts. I too assumed that this is normal. My XB12 stops fine but ticks. I think this is common on many motorcycles that I have ridden but I've been away from bikes for awhile. I will get it checked. 2500 miles on my bike and in need of a new rear tire anyway, so it will be at the dealer.
