Hey American, that must be nice. my dealer is requiring me to drop it off. Otherwise, even with an appt, I may be sitting for 6 or more hours and even that's not gauranteed.

I'm coming up on the 1000 myself, but plan on doing it myself. The dealer I purchased from offers free 1000 service, but they are 130 mi. away, and I'm not real sure of their quality. Hell, after I bought the bike, they sent me a nice plaque saying something to the effect of "This Buell custom built for Glenn Bradbury" (Interesting, since I bought a new 2004 in Nov. of 2005. They have quite the crystal ball). It had a picture of a XB9R (I bought a XB12S) and the VIN. Too bad the VIN probably matched the XB9. If they can't get a plaque right, I don't think I'll trust them to service my bike.

HMMM... Man you guys/gals rock.. I didn't realize you didn't need to adjust the valves.. I am calling my dealer tomorrow and canceling my appt. and saving 200+ bones. I will just go by my service manual

Buellistic- why do you emphisize changing the oil/filter every 3K??? I will be using Amsoil and it stats that I go double what the manual says and just change the filter and top off what you lose?

Hey Buellxb9s you can trust the oil bottle all you want but these motors really abuse oil and run really hot, why would you want to run 6k between oil changes?

Buellxb9s:

The first 60K "i" used H-D 20W-50(change oil/filters every 2500 miles) ...

From 60K to present "i" have used H-D Syn3 20W-50(changed oil/filters every 3K miles), have 89K as of last ride ...

The TOP END has never been off, so it works
for me with my BUELL ...

I just dropped mine off for the 1k Service. $154 out the door with tax, which wasn't too bad. Considering the other dealer around here wanted over $200 for it and had a 2 week longer lead time. We shall see how they did when I pick it up after work. Although I felt comfortable as the Tech and I talked about the XB's for a while and they seemed really into them.

Extended mileage Mobil 1 is guaranteed for 15,000 miles so going the Buell recommended 5,000 miles between oil changes should be no problem at all.

Dealer or Self? Most people are not quite honest about their own mechanical abilities, have the factory service manuals, and use cheap parts/lubricants (and brag about in a public forum that the factory reads).
Be honest with yourself and do your machine a favor as well, if you're one of the guys posting "How do I unplug a turn signal or remove rear reflectors", you should NOT be doing a 1,000 mile service, period. It's your bike so let your conscience be your guide. Or you can do it yourself anyway and start a new bitching thread when some crappy Buell part fails and the bike doesn't run right, and "I don't know why."

Just had my 1k service at the dealer. They assigned 2 techs to work on it, I demo'd an '06 XB12R, got a free sling bag and was back on the road an hour later. All for $240.

Rasmonis you should throw your dealer a bone and tell everyone who it was. That is great stuff.

Just had my 1000 mile service done yesterday on my 06 Uly (@ 1340 miles, doh!). I wasn't sure how much mileage I'd be putting on so I waited until about 700 miles to make the appt. It was only a week later but I rode to work pretty much everyday.

Long story short - I changed the fluids and oil filter myself at about 1005 miles (cost about $48 for 4 quarts of Syn3, o-rings for the drain plugs, clutch cover gasket, filter and sales tax.

Got the bill for the rest of the service - $52!

All told, 1000 mile service - $100. Of course, I bought a battery tender and the factory tall windscreen with those extra bills I thought I was going to spend on service

I forgot - I did the same as Rasmonis. Demoed a CityX and an XB9S - got my sling bag. Gotta love free stuff for riding bikes!

By the way, Cerini H-D Buell in Rostraver/Belle Vernon PA.

I purchased my '06 XB12Scg @ Battlefield HD/Buell in Gettysburg, PA. Truly a great dealership from Sales to Service. I even got a great deal on my bike.

Highly recommended.

Ras, who did you buy your bike from? I bought mine from Art. I had a different experience. Marty was great though. Hope my service experience is a little better.

BTW, how did you get them to let you demo a bike? They aren't letting me wait.

Both Art and Marty worked the sale.

As far as the demo...I just asked and waited a few minutes while they brought the bike outside but that was really all there was to it.

I wasn't expecting the bag either, it was a cool surprise.
