Well how are you guys doing. Newbie to your forum and I have a few question about exhaust for my XB12Ss. Also may I say what a great forum you guys have before I start my question. OK, I just bought my XB12Ss about 2 1\2 weeks ago now and have a itch to put on a new exhaust now, the problem is that the stock muffler sounds so puffy. I want something that will sound good and throaty but not raspy. I also want better performance as well. I hear good things about the drummer, what are your thoughts on this, help me make up my mind so I can spend more money on this great bike. Also one more thing is a XB9S exhaust the same as a XB12S exhaust, of course be sides the value in the muffler.

The XB12 exhaust has an actuated valve to increase low-end torque. The 9 does not have the valve.

You can read a full, thorough, exhaustive, complete, extreme, and totally round and round raging debate about different exhausts by simply doing a search of this board. The dead horse has been beaten so much that there is probably not enough of it left for a DNA sample to verify the species.

see how fast this thread ends up archived

depends on how much you want to spend

depends on how much sound you want

depends on what finish you want

I've heard great things about the drummer too

Just put on the Drummer SS. The sound is amazing. The performance is amazing, and Kevin is a great guy to deal with. Highly recommended.

Read all the threads (and like Perry said, there’s a lot of info here) look at all the dyno charts, and go to an event that you know will be attended by a whole lot of fellow Buellers. Then you can hear them all! That’s what did it for me. I went to the Liberty sponsored Buell Demo day last fall in New Jersey. I was able to hear the Buell Race can, a D&D, regular Drummer, Drummer SS, Special Ops, and a Jardine. After hearing all those, it was easy for me to make up my mind....

it does look sharp dana. think mine will stay black for now though even though i like yours. plus the black will probably hold up better to my flame throwers

WOW! I didn't think that I would have this kinda response. I would love to hear them on the bike, but the problem that I have is that I live in Central California, right by Fresno, there is not a hole lot of Buell bikes in the area that I know of. Anyway thanks for all the input. Should I contact someone at Drummer and talk to them about what I should do. I really like the way the econo drummer looks. Does anyone have one of these pipes and how does it sound. The D&D looks sweet, but I heard that its real loud, I sure would like to hear that one too. Anyway lets keep it rolling.

not really trying to hijack the thread...

i am assuming the little bit of baffle that is in the d&d's is all metal and no packing in it. do you happen to know for sure?

main problem is the size of the plugs that you are supposed to use to ignite everything. i dont like the idea of those huge things being right where everyone can see them. trying to figure that out before i start rounding up stuff. need a skinny long plug that would be able to reach most the way to the center, but still has a really big spark. and then ofcourse wether i am going to inject it with extra fuel or not

We will know in a month or so, but I think that the Micron has mapped out to the best SAE RWHP numbers for a stock XB12? ... Terry

I agree, we got the best numbers from the Micron as well with the Direct Link mapping.
My techs will be mapping a 12 with a Drummer next week so we'll see what we can do with it.

Hey Big, I have an Ss as well and I just went with a drummer original, Race ECM and k&n filter. Amazing gains from idle to limiter and the exhaust tone is 100 times better than the stocker, I highly recommended this set up. I doubt if you will be disappointed. The drummer is a great pipe, as others on the board will certainly agree. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend.

Shawn,

This is important too. Most aftermarket exhausts, with the exception of the Spec. Ops pipe and econo Drummer, eliminate the interactive valve. That plus the fact that you'll be flowing a lot more air means you'll need at least a Buell race ecm, or better yet, get your stock ecm tuned by Direct Link for more fuel and just run a valve emulator. Add a hi flow air filter and you'll be very happy.

OK Guys, I went with the D&D. I bought it from a fellow Bueller. He made me a killer deal that I can't refuse. If its to loud for me I'll try to install a cone silencer in side the main head pipe, we use them in drag racing to lower the DB but not the performance. Now I need to get the filter and the ECM then have the TPS set. What other mods can I do to improve the performance to the bike. Thanks for the input, keep it coming.
