I suspect that I am heavier then the "average" rider. I am sure these bikes' suspension were adjusted to accommodate a 160-180lbs rider, maybe even less.

Where are the factory settings at, at a happy medium?

I suspect that making them a little stiffer will help considering my weight, correct? If so, how and where do I adjust them and how much difference does a click make? Left or right to make tighter?

I haven't gotten a service manuel for my Buell yet, so any help until I get one would be appreciated.

The suspension adjustments are also described in the owners manual, assuming you have one of those of course.

Shea,

The stock springs on ALL motorcycles tend to be on the soft side, and the Buell is no exception.

I weight #235 in my riding gear, and I was really unable to get my bike to handle the way I wanted to until I upgraded my suspension by having heavier springs installed and the shocks revalved.

If you weigh over 200 pounds, and like to ride fast, I would recommend this route very highly. Not a criticism of the Buell, just the laws of physics at work here.

Thanks jon. I am about 220lbs and notice that the suspension is quite soft too. I am going to try and adjust it and test ride it and see how it goes. Next winter I will have more money and time to spend working on the bike, so I will probably make a couple more mods and if the suspension doesn't do what I need, I'll def look into a new suspension.

WHat spring did you go with and how much money was all of that?

What I did was to buy a set of used front forks and a rear shock on eBay.

Then I sent them to Trackside Engineering, telling them what my weight was, (235# in gear), and how I was planning to use the bike, ( aggressive street riding, one track day a year, no racing), and they selected the right springs and re-valved the shocks front and rear. Total was about $400 plus shipping. Worked out very well.

I installed the units myself, set the sag according to Trackside's recommendation, and will fine tune the shocks when it warms up a bit. Then I sold my units on eBay. That way I was only off the road for a day.

i raced on stock suspension,for two race weekend i weight 225 without gear.i was close to the buell setting but a little more comp. and rebound.but now i got ctr to set up the suspension. penske interals in the fork and a penske rear shock. it handles like a dream

Hey Buellrcr,

Did you remove the fan for installation of the Penske? Wondering if the fan can be "offest" with spacers as per Ohlins installation instructions for the XB.

Diablobrian: thanks for putting up that chart.....it's really helpful (for me anyways!!!) to have something that links the change in setting to the resulting effect!!

I haven't really mucked with the settings yet on my year old 03 9r, (the factory settings seemed to make sense given my 165lb with gear on weight and intended use), but beyond my riding skills and ability, I've always wondered if there's a "whole world of handling" that I'm missing out on due to the suspension not being "dialed in".
Looking forward to warmer weather to try some of these settings.

has anyone tried the buell performance sring set-up. ie red rear spring and front fork springs?
