Im thinking of calling their customer service number and seeing if theres something they can do for me... this is what happened:

My kickstand failed on me at 38K miles, its basically leaning like 25% more than it should. I go to the dealer last Thurs for what i think is a slight adjustment, they tell me recalls already been done and that they need a part so they put a order in. I sign a 39.99 estimate and take the bus home. Today i pick up my bike and theres a 182.00 bill. They told my extended warranty couldnt cover it like we were all expecting and they had to give me the whole new XB9R kickstand that the older versions didnt have. To keep this short all they do is knock off half the labor so I pay $142 which is 39 dollars labor and the rest is parts n tax. I wanted to talk to the service manager but he wasnt there and after the 2 hour bus commute to get there i was running late for work.

the way i see it is if you fix a recalled part and it still fails you should upgrade me to the new kickstand for free. To be honest i like the old one better. The auto cut off feature was really nice and came in handy countless times in my 38,000 miles of riding it. So the feature i like is gone and Im upset i had to pay 142 dollars. Thats alot of cash for a 24 year old guy living on his own like me.

So do you guys think i should call Buell, the dealer service manager or ESP ? Im hoping someone can help me out so i dont feel screwed.

$142 to swap the kickstand? Damn! What's the part cost?

The new kickstand doesn't have the switch? (I'm not up on XBs)

Why didn't the extended warranty cover it?

it was a total of 9 parts including bracket and stand spring, bolts etc... Yeah newer XBs have a shorter kick stand with no switch.

extended warranty said it is part of the frame and not covered.

As is often the case, I'd have to wonder about the accuracy of what your dealer is telling you ...

Nothing wrong with a call to the Customer Service, that's what they're there for after all.

Follow the Canfield rules of engagement; Courtesy, precise information, try to be part of the solution etc. etc.

Aside from all that; if I was quoting a job which then turned out to be considerably more expensive to the tune of 300%+, I as a service provider would make damn sure to contact my customer prior to going ahead with the job. Which bring us right back to point #1 of the question of dealer info accuracy.

Did they even bother to kiss you afterward?

In Wisconsin if the job exceeds the estimate and they don't get you permission before proceeding you con't pay. They can also be fined. Not usre if this applies to bike but it sure applies to cars.

Do I think Buell cares? Definitely. Do what Henrik says. You've got nothing to lose. Courtesy is very important.
I have never seen any other company treat me as well as Buell has in the past when I had problems.

Wait - the extended warranty doesn't cover body work or anything attached to the frame? WTF?
Why do people buy Buell's extended warranty again?

Yamaha's YES is essentially an extension of the factory one (making it a bargain @ $400 for 5 years)

Yes they care. I was having electrical problems over the summer.I didn't feel my dealer was looking after my best interest. It took some time, and I had to find the right people to talk to, but it did get fixed. I would send something to Customer Service in writing. Make sure you have your full name, VIN number, address and a contact number. Then I would follow up with a phone call to make sure they got the letter and write down the name of the people you speak to. In my opinion, the dealer should not have done the work with out your OK if it was that much over the estimate.

Good Luck

My kickstand broke off, and not only did they replace the bolts, they sent me home on a Harley of my choice while they had it overnight, and detailed my bike when they were done with it.

I had to drive up to the service door and honk till they came and opened it, and I stood there laughing about my problem, and all went well! My Hats off to Zion HD/Buell for their great service!

Yep, its gone. You don't need it anymore, the kickstand will retract itself if you leave it down.

I decided to test it just to make sure. So I left it down, took off, an turned left. No problems at all.

As an aside, I brought my rims to the local Buell dealership twice to get them mounted/balanced. End result, improperly done, and that is what I am stuck with. I think Buell cares, but they are the red-headed step child, the dealerships sure don't care. It's all about how much milk they can get out of you...

When a kickstand break wouldn't it come crashing down? No damage to the body at all? I can't imagine mine breaking on me.

I have my kick stand switch bypassed. I've ridden off a few times and forgot and it just kicks back.
