Can anyone that has used a Power commander on their Buells tell me if they seen any real increase in power? Are there different models or does the same one work on all the Buells?

I believe the story goes that PC has made a model for Buells, but not for the XB. So you have to buy the one for Tubers and find an XB map on the internet or badweb.

But isn't a TFI the best option for a Buell?

The TFI is a fuel injection tuning box that allows you to add fuel and adjust the O2 sensor reading so that the bike doesn't lean itself out.

There are three pots that let you adjust the three areas of fuel input (idle/cruise, acceleration under 4k, and acceleration over 4k).

Not a bad tool, but the Power Commander (which is no longer made for any Buells) allows you to tune based on RPM and throttle position.

If you are certain that all you need to do is add fuel... Go with a TFI.

If you need to add and remove fuel, go with a PCIII for an X1 or S3.

To determine which one you need, get a dyno run done with an A/F reading once you've put the mods on the bike.

I run a PCIII now and have also run a TFI. I needed to remove fuel at 2000-2800 so I needed a PCIII.

The PCIII may not add any power unless you have lean or overly rich conditions anywhere in the power band--in that case, you'll get them corrected with a dyno-tuning and have a much more linear/constant throttle response...and with the XB motors that's a really really good thing!!

Disclaimer...I don't have an XB but wish I had the XB FI motor in my S2. The PCIII on the Duc is exquisite, wouldn't trade it at all. IMHO, the XB motor is one fine piece of quality machinery.

I contacted PC about the programmer and they said that they do not offer them for Buells. What I cannot figure out is if they do not offer them then how can you buy them? It seems like there are several places that sell the PCs,so do they modify another PC to work on the Buell? I can buy one used but where can I get the program for the City-X?

Mountain - DynoJet stopped making them for the Buells when they went to the XB platform. The connectors are all the same and the overall base of how it works is the same.

You can get used, or sometimes a new one (K&N rebranded the DynoJet ones and they're selling off their old stock). It doesn't matter which one you get (they were made for the X1 and the S3), they will both work on any of the XB's. They have some maps for the intake/exhaust configurations available to those models at the time they were made, but if you get it tuned by someone they will make you a custom map for your bike.

As a side note, Odie had a TFI on his bike - he put in a PCIII with the better O2 sensor and felt an improvement in the performance before he even had it tuned.

In case you're wondering, yes, his TFI was tuned with the bike on a dyno.

I had a TFI as well. Now I run a PCIII.

I think both are capable of getting the job done, but the TFI is only useful if you need to ADD fuel. Not if you need to remove it. I needed to add a lot above 3K and remove a lot below 3K with a Force pipe. The TFI wouldn't help, the PCIII works great.

The key to tuning ANY existing FI device with our Buells...

Install the device and allow the AFV to settle.

On the PCIII, you would set the "closed loop enrichment" to 1 and then ride at ~3200R with an otherwise zero map for a little while so the AFV will settle. Then tune.

With a TFI, set pot four and leave 1, 2, 3 fully counter-clockwise and do the same thing. Then tune.

Are most people using the race ecm or the stock unit with the power commander?

Anyone know why PC is not produced for Buell's any more? It is produced to allmost every bike I know about except Buell.

Heard from a dyno guy (sorry, forgot his name) connected to Cliff's BMW in Danbury that the fuel injection system in the Buell is sophisticated (learning as it goes, adjusting and self-modifying) and that was the prime reason for no PC. Don't know this for myself, just passing on the info.

After installing the Race Kit I put the bike on a dyno and found that it was running rich above 4000 rpm. I use the PC to lean the fuel a little. I need to Dyno it again to see how it's running. I would suggest putting the bike on a dyno to see if you need to adjust the fuel curve before investing in TFI add-ons. If you don't need to adjust the fuel curve you can use the money towards other improvements.
