Yahoo...don't dismiss the Ulysses til you ride one...this thing rocks! Rode one last week at demo days. It has lighter turn-in than my 9S! And after just completing a 3000+mile road trip, the added ergonomics and longer suspension of the Ulysses would be greatly appreciated (my knees were killing me after seven days in the 9S saddle), although, they still need to lower the seat height for us inseam challenged individuals. I had to use my son's BMW as the mule to haul some of my "luggage"...again, the hard bags on the Ulysses would have been nice. And that big comfy seat on the Ulysses would have allowed me to carry a passenger (although, don't know if my wife would have lasted 7 days on any bike...?).
New models are good for Buell, and this Ulysses is gonna be a real winner for them. IMHO we will never see a Buell street sportbike capable of taking on the horsepower of the Japanese bikes, so probably best to get over it and enjoy what you've got...it's already pretty damn good!

I see the no-change to the Bolt as a good thing. The less changes on the new models, the higher resale value on the older models... not that I want to sell it anytime soon.

I think Blake said it best in another thread.
The Firebolt is already an awesome street bike.
It's hard to keep finding ways to improve it.

Would it not be pretty easy to slap the bolt fairing on the SS, and get some clip ons, maybe switch out the foot pegs.

Oooh, oooh, oooh.

Someone with some skillz photochop the 'blot front onto a L'long with the Uly' rear end. Sounds kinda interesting.

"you mean the most sold kind of cage ????"

What is your definition of solid? No SUV has scored notably well in crash tests of any kind! To get a decent performer you have to consider sport wagons like Subarus. SUVs are totally a fashion thing...meanwhile they drive prices higher for insurance, are terrible for fuel consumption, are more punishing in crashes with smaller vehicles...! SUVs are the most worthless type of vehicle for 99% of the people who own them!

Don't get me started! I can be really annoying about this topic (yes...even more annoying than I already am!)

I just picked up the new Cycle World (I know, I know...I'm behind) and I have to say the Ulysses sounds impressive...if it didn't look so much like a BMW 650 GS! If they'll just take that longer frame and larger fuel capacity and more rigid frame and better tranny and softer clutch and and and develop a new Firebolt for taller riders, I'd be happy. Is that too much to ask?

I suspect exactly that will happen next year (Ride what ya got, and save your pennies). A bigger firebolt with full fairing. The long frame will give plenty of room for a water cooled motor, radiator and hoses. If Buell can get a Sportster based engine to perform like it does in my 12 just think what they can do with the V-Rod engine, or the VR-1000. Heck they could probably turn a Big Twin into a performance engine

I'm thinking we will see a new motor next year. I've heard some rumors of a Rotax inspired v-twin. The V-rod motor is too big, so you all can forget that.

But I thought the bigger frame is only wider, not longer. The 2" in wb come all from the swingarm (I got a D- in another thread for asking this Q, fast learner..). So much for room for a rad.

Never say never.
Afterall didnt HD use the Rotax for their "army" bike? Sorry cant recall the name of it now.

And what would anyone here have said a year ago if they had been told Buell was going to produce a bike like the Ulysses? Never happen.

The military make decisions on the production of such things purchased.Who else would we contract to to build bikes Honda??I doubt that.Buell takes pride in the American heritage of having a 100% american powered motorcycle Rotax would change that.

is it just me or has the question of why there isnt a full fairinged bolt been relatively quiet until lately?

im not sure it will happen due to the heat the engine will give off.

now dont take my word for anything as all i know how to do is a. ride the thing till i fall over, b. learn how my bike works by fixing what i just broke.

either way, im planning on putting a full fairing on my bike this winter. can anyone provide the link for the company that sells the super oil cooler? anyone else have any suggestions on how i can keep my boys cooler next summer by reducing the amount of heat the bike puts out. I also plan on jet hotting my headers as well.

anyways,

Dont forget that Hondas are produced here in the good ole USA. In fact a far greater percentage of the parts in the Goldwings & Shadows are US sourced than in an XB. I think its sad that with all the knowledge here we had to go to japan for the new swingarm & china for the wheels.

Hmmm.. a Firebolt with a full fairing. I'd like to see it as an option (Buell accessory) for those who like the full fairing look. Me personally, I like the naked look of the Firebolt. Makes her look mean & determined. Ready to rumble with any twisty piece of road that comes her way.

Are Our XB's though are designed here 100% and the parts built there.A Rotax motor designed else where and built elsewhere. Its almost like saying Porche is going to use a GM corvette motor or vise versa.

hour, hour, hour, hour, hour... our, our, our, our, our...

next election is approaching, gotta get you ready. joker

Rotax, a German company, is owned by Bombardier, a Canadian company. The new XB's have parts from all over the world, not to mention the V-Rod's PORSCHE engineered engine. The Anglo/German relationship already exists within the HD corporate community. Besides, the rumor is a Buell/Rotatx joint venture. I think most people agree the XB's could use a few more ponies, which is something the current engine, on a practical basis, can't provide.

Rotax is a Austrian company.
Porsche develops many parts for other companies too (You would be amazed what), they have a separate development center for this.

I like the idea of a stock XB with more hp, and if it has to be a Rotax engine so should it be. Of course it would have to proof if it has the same character as my XB12R and would be considered to become part of the family.
On the other side I'm so happy with my "rat", that I can't think of buying a new bike. I thinking more on optimizing my current XB to a Big Bore streetfighter after the warranty ends (saving money already), can you say "Hellbender".
