Greeting guys, looking for some advice.
Sorry don't have a picture, but the front header is turning blue/purple down past the bend "s" shape, also looks as if the rear is doing the same.
Indication she's running lean. ??
Running:
K&N with 12 box, Jardine & TFI on stock ECM.
settings:
1. 3
2. 7
3. 4
4. 8:15

I had pot 1 up to 3:30 but it was popping more, also idle was creeping, release throttle and it was staying constant.
So dropped back to 3.

To make richer, which pots require tweaking...

Any help appreciated.

Q: Would removing the TFI and installing the Race ECM for the 03 XBs help ?

Briz,

I am getting the same thing happening to my headers and was wondering the same question. I have an 04 XB9sl with the following mods:

de-snorkel
K&N
D&D
Buell Race Ecm
12 air box (uncut)

So to answer one question I still get the blue/ purpple affect with the race ecm.

There are alot of smart Buellers out there I'm sure some one has an answer.

Aaron

My XB12 is blue to about the same place with the K&N/desnorkel as my only mods.
Look at a lot of the XB pics here on Badweb and you'll see where they should be blue to.
Sounds normal.

Dyno tuning would be the best $175 you could spend for piece of mind not to mention your bike would run shweet and have the fuel economy where you want it...

My stock 9s has purple headers as well. It's normal and I like the look. If you don't, metal polish (neverdull, etc.) will take it off and give it a chrome look.

The Eagle 1 wheel and mag polish works like you won't believe to take those blues away!

"The Eagle 1 wheel and mag polish works like you won't believe to Ttake those blues away!"

I tried this stuff and it works quite well. Soon I will have totally SS clean pipes.

Thanks for the tip.

if your really lucky you can be out at night next to a 1200 and watch the headers just glow red. with enough speed and rpm's that is. : )

Since I've got the fuel right.
I polished my headers once, and they never turn blue,
only gold.

Let em turn blue / purple...it shows you are running the bike like it was meant to be run (unless, of course, you spend all your time in rush-hour traffic?????)

I use Mothers polish and a kitchen scrubbing pad (w/ the rough green pad on one side). Turns silver for a few dozen miles, then back to brass/gold, then eventually to blue.

Geeeez - where is this creeping chrome fetish coming from. These are sportbikes. Exhaust turning colors adds to the mystique.

Stainless exhaust is cool stuff - just clean up road goo with Scotchbrite and a couple rides later, it's good as new.

Chrome or polished pipes mean you're gonna be polishing more than anytime since you first discovered wanking in the shower. (bet I snuck that by the censors for the time being)

Slaughter actually I'm not polishing much at all with Eagle 1. Maybe once a month. The picture you see above is how they looked after I got back from Daytona and they sat in some traffic idling sometimes like it felt forever. And that was a full 10 days there. Its something with this stuff that lasts awhile.Even when I polish them I'm not spending anymore then 5-10 minutes tops.

Didn't realize that it was only once a month (re-reading my post above, what came outta my brain sounded kinda funny to me but came across more smart-***ed than I had intended)

I tend to run ratbikes though so I'm really a bad one to get input on cosmetic issues.

Actually, I got a couple BRAG-arts here that could use the info! (thanks)

OK - I'll go lie down by my dish.
