>>>I think having discussion like this in a forum is healthy.

It is, no doubt and don't count yourownselvunits out of the mix in the devleopment of future products. Ears abound.

New York, the hills just North of here near...well yes, BMW USA HQ, play home to many "in the works" media events just prior to release.

Many of you recall the twisty "ribbon road" used by BMW that is just north of town.

The last one I got invited to, and I am still at a loss as to why, was Saab's big shindig with the Viggen..far and away the most elaborate and fancy manufacturers evetn I have ever been to....including the fabled Rhinebeck Air Show and a private at at Lime Rock.

Keep those eyes open....

Letting ppl know of a new Buell coming out will not hurt current sales. Most ppl aren't looking at Buells because they want more performance, but if ppl know another Buell with a different engine and more performance is coming ,they may put off the purchase of a new Japanese or Italian bike to buy a more powerful American bike.Just my opinion though

thepup's got it right on. If I knew something knew was coming up from buell, I'd definitely hold off on getting a new bike to see it first. Maybe that's just between two people though.

I'm real happy with the XB12 as it is, maybe a knock sensor so it could run on any old fuel would be nice, but its got a real grunty humdinger easy to service no-fuss motor in a fine-handling frame.

Chevrolet had no problem letting you know the C5 was coming, or Fords 300HP new generation Mustang GT...It's all part of the Game

Chevrolet or Ford are completely different animals from Buell, and while hype surrounding a new 'vette or Mustang would most definitely peak interest and thus sales for them, the same is NOT necessarily true for a small manufacturer like Buell. On top of that, a press release saying that the 2005 Mustang GT will have 300HP is a HELLUVA lot different than releasing pictures of it as well as describing the engine configuration, etc. The former, large manufacturers will do because cars like the Corvette and Mustang have millions of devoted followers. The latter, NO WAY IN HELL. In fact, an employee lost their job because they leaked pictures of the 2005 'stang before it was released. Just grainy 640x480 pictures, no technical info at all. Think about that.

quote:

When the Ford folks, just like Saab and MB who I follow closely do, announced the next generation Mustang all the testing, reliabilty, survivability and certification/homoligation testing was done.

Weeeeeeeeell....Sure. If you say so. ; )

Last I knew Ford was the only automobile manufacturer that would actually start production without all of the durability testing completed. I was reminded of this fact a few years ago but mainly goes back to my college days, so things could have changed by now.

I think people not knowing what a Buell is hurts sales more than rumors of a new Buell.

You'd think so, but you MIGHT be wrong. Motorcycle owners are a strange group of folks. The chasm between what they SAY they want and what they write checks for sometimes gets pretty wide.

There are some things that might surprise some folks with regard to how info comes and goes and where moto-heads shape their opinions.

The one that still amazes me and I have no idea where I heard it, is that only 30% of the people who own motorcycles read motorcycle mags. Before you light the fuse, I am certain there are tons of qualifiers in that "ride" and "read".

But...and subject to the fact that I'd agree input from current owners is good...it is essential to understand the trends, wants and PERCEIVED (go ahead and chant the "perception is reality" mantra) wants of riders.

To understand the corollary view, imagine if you spent the millions required for even the most simple platform and were wrong.

Bottom line is that manufacturing motorcycles for sale (at the level of a REAL manufactuer, not the chopper shops) is a business in which you bet almost all you have almost every day.

Makes total sense to me. Once you (read "I" ) purchase a motorcycle, I'm really only most interested in reading more about and in support of my chosen brand. Corelate that with the percentage of articles in the mags that are about ones bike / breed and I'm not surprised at all about that figure.

I would say it's a given the Future Buells will bring more performance to the table. Most likely by upgrading current bits and pieces and most likely a new motor will surface later than sooner.

There is nothing wrong about speculating what may or may not appear.

I can't imagine, with most people here on the board wanting more performance, that a much stronger Buell is lurking around one of the next bends in the road. If that keeps folks from buying now...Se A Vida É

Very same could have been said two years ago when everyone was carping over the 9R/S & they gave us the 12's.

Me? I'll leave all ya'll to wax & wane. I'm go'dern happy with my 9R.

I'm mad for my 9sx. It's like crack. When I'm not riding it, I'm thinking about riding it or thinking up excuses to blow off work so I can go ride some more.

Not sure why all the speculation about a new Buell is already hitting the forms. Hell we still have another seven to eight months before any real news comes out about the 06' Buell.

Thanks for the "right now" clarification. ; )

Actually, the cold is easier to take with some actual snow lying around. Last few years, there's been no snow on the ground until into january yet been too cold to ride.

Last year's January snows in the midwest can be blamed on me - they came the day after I rode my XB home : (
