I have a 2003 xb9s. The only mods are K&N and a xb12 airbox. I average about 48-52 MPG. I ride alot of remote backroads, with few opportunities to gas up. I would like to increase the power but do not want to give up much cruising range.

...so my question is for you guys with an upgraded exhaust or upgraded exhaust with a race ECM--What is your configuration & what fuel mileage do you get?

Carver,

I was just thinking the same thing...I get at best 50 MPG on an XB9R. Was wondering how this might affect mileage as I wish these bikes had 5 gallons before the light went on...

The only mod I have is the K&N filter. I swear it has dropped my mileage by 5 MPG!

I have the drummer, K&n, 12 aribox, and race ecm. If I do only highway riding i get about 130-140 before the light comes on, When i do mostly around town and back roads its more like 110 when the light comes on.

I have an XB9 (2003) with the race kit (ECM, filter, muffler) and the 12 airbox.

I gained MPG even with the overly-active right-wrist action.

I get 49 MPG (averaged) and get about 130 Miles as the reserve light clicks on.

I just went 190 miles on a tank! That is good, isn't it?

Of course, my bike is bone stock except for a missing snorkel...

12S with Drummer, K&N, stock ecm. Mpg in the low to mid 50's on remote roads, 55 not unusual if I'm just plodding along. Usually get around 135 miles to low fuel light.

In other words, no, most mods will not adversely affect your mileage and in fact many of them can help it, although in bits and pieces. I think pretty much everyone gets between 45-55mpg on the XBs.

I have the complete Buell race kit and 12 airbox on my 9s. My mileage is at 55 most fill ups and that is up a tad over stock.

Good stuff.

Thanks for the advice.

I'll probably get the race ecm and some exhaust (not sure which).

If I was to get the pipe first & the ECM later...is there a pipe that works well with the stock ECM? I am most concerned with power from 3,500 to 6,500 rpm.

Mine is a stock 9s with 12 airbox cover - the last 5 fillups have averaged 54 mpg, combination of city, freeway, and rural riding.

Starter,

What was the mix of riding to you were doing to get 56MPG?

You must have a "job" (I do work but have plenty of time on my hands, gets boring sometimes tho)like mine to enable you to surf during the day (Where I am it's 10:00am on Monday morning)

20km through the city in morning peak and then 200km on the freeway at 120 km/hr, then another 25km back through the city in afternoon peak hour. For all you imperial users 1 mile = 1.6 km. One thing that is pissing me off is the fact it will only hold 12.7litres which is 2 short of what it should so the reserve light comes on at 10 litres used. Makes my mileage calc easy.

XB9's with Buell race exhaust, Race ECU, Race filter and 12 lid. I ride around town and if I take it easy I can get 110 on 3 gals. If I ride normally (for me that is) it drops to below 100, normally low 90's.

I am a bit heavy handed.

I have the Buell Race Kit(Pipe,ECM and K&N),and the 12 airbox, and yellow gel handgrips(this makes it REAL FAST!)... I typically get 110 Mi before the light comes on... Mostly back road/rural-suburban riding....

Race ecm, k&n, drummer and 12 box.

I don't notice the difference in fuel usage over stock.

Who the hell gives a damn? If you are worried about it don't use the bike for fun just for getting from A to B at 56mph by the straightest route..................

NOT

The less you get the better, it's a measure of how hard you're managing to work the bike.}

Hold on now, it get's worse.

Not only am I payin almost twice as much as you guys for fuel, I've probably got around half as much season as most of you.

But the thing is, I ain't bitchin, every mile on the XB I'm smilin.

Well fuel prices even out over the season length so everyone roughly pays the same for hteir yearly fuel use. I got 12 months of season and pay $0.95/L Australian. Thats nearly 0.74c/L American.

Who the hell gives a damn?

ME!
My 32 year old 4WD truck gets 10mpg on a good day. If I'm on one of my bikes, I can go back and forth to work FOR A WEEK ON A LESS THAN A GALLON OF GAS! Less of my money going to OPEC, Exxon, and any other Evil Conspiritors after my American Greenbacks. That leaves me with more fun money to spend on bikes, broads, and booze. ; )

How much you guys paying for gas now anyway?

About $2.09 per gallon for Premium. Before you go comparing apples to oranges, what kinda tax are you paying on gas where you're at? It's 44¢ a gallon in Colorado, USA. I assume other countries have a much heftier tax.

I get 41 MPG. It's been the same no matter what I'm running -- stock, Buell race kit, race ECM, K&N, Jardine, and I'm about to see how it is with the Drummer replacing the Jardine.

Fuel in SoCal runs about $2.50 (91 octane).

I have the Drummer, 12 airbox, race ecm and K&N with the "snorkel" removed.

My light comes on after 2.7 gallons consumed with 1 gallon remaining. Trip O'meter usually reads between 147 and 165. I weigh in right around 215-220. You do the math. I think I get pretty decent mileage with all of the chosen options.
