Here are some pics of my crash going 30+, head on into a tiny Brit car. Today was the first time I saw it since the accident 3 weeks ago. As most won't remember, I got a broken ankle and a 6in gash in my knee. As I drove up there it felt like I was going to identify a body, then having to suffer further as I drove the rotting corpse back, still bleeding its gasoline. The front wheel shattered completely. Crumple zones on a Buell maybe? Enjoy. Putting it up for sale for parts here in the UK.picspics2

Man, sorry to hear about the crash. Good thing you're still in one piece.

For 30 mph that bike looks pretty bashed.

Insured? Getting a new one?

Andronicus81: Man, sorry to hear and see that!

Ingemar: I disagree. To me, the bike came out VERY well. Certainly enough so that Andronicus81 can part it out. I's love to see bigger and more detailed pics. And look! The steering head remained intact. I read somewhere on THE INTERNET that the steering head would break away in the slightest crash!

Not break away in the slightest crash, but apparently it is designed to be the 'crumple zone' of the XB chassis, bleeding off energy rather than transferring it to the frame/engine.

Looks to me like it took a 30mph head on extremely well, and Andronicus is VERY lucky!

Out of curiousity, was the 30mph a combined speed or YOUR speed?

Darthane-
It was my speed, who knows how fast she was going. That front end is just kind of balanced on there, nothing up front remains. I checked the headbolts and the front motor mount and they look fine as well. This being England, the land of regal expenses, I could only afford liability. But hopefully the part sell will go well.

Thank God you are alive. Put the parts on Ebay for top dollar. As a 20 year motocross racer, I know how you feel! I had to get past alot of "near-misses" . I'm 47 years old and still riding. The good out-weighs the bad, even after crashes. Good luck.

I think you AND the bike did very, very well for that combined speed. I came out much worse in mine way back when. I hope things go well for you.

If you want to read about the "break away" neck, follow this link.

http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=HITOFF&p=1&u=/netahtm l/search-bool.html&r=7&f=G&l=50&co1=AND&d=ptxt&s1=buell.ASNM.&OS=AN/buell&RS=AN/ buell

It's from the US patent office. You can look at all of the patents that Buell has filed for. It proves to be interesting reading. if the link doesn't work, just do a search on "Buell" for the assignee name in the quick search area.

Aw, the person who usually brings the issue of the break-away steering head as evidence that all Buells are crap is not taking the bait. Out riding the new bike, I guess!
