My belt went to pieces today at my way to work. This after only 6000 km (3700 miles). A new one will cost me 550$ because it’s not included in the warranty. Are there any belts on the market except original that could fit and don’t cost me a weeks salary? |

I believe a new belt should cost $150, not $550. You might try another dealer. I got the price of $150 this week from my local Harley dealer. |

Ok! I suppose it´s a little more expensive here in Sweden, but 400$ to ship it over the atlantic seems to much. I'm considering to convert to chain. Can't cost that much. It would be nice to find a standard belt with the right pitch and length at an independent dealer (Aratron, Good Year, Bentzler etc.) |

not likely to find a belt that is the correct pitch, length, width and construction! this is a custom-made, specially developed belt for this application. $550 is insane. you are getting hosed. |

I did the '04 belt upgrade on my '03. The new Goodyear belt is much heavier duty than the Gates. I understand that Buell has an upgraded belt for the '03s as well. Keith |

The belt should be covered under warranty. Review your owner's manual to be sure. Ask the dealer what would happen if the belt had broken as you rode the bike home immediately after purchasing it. No warranty on that? So where do they draw the line? I'll tell you where, according to the manufacturer's warranty printed in the back of your owner's manual. Don't let your dealer screw you. |

Johnnyxb9, Yes, you have to change the rear brake master cylinder. The pulleys are different enough in size (changes the path the belt travels through) that the original master cylinder won't work. I have, btw, a slightly used '03 belt kit I'll make someone a really good deal on... Keith |

Johnnyxb9 & Skully, I converted 2 XB's to the 04 belt and did not replace the rear brake master cylinder. It's not in the way at all. The 04 belt is the same width as the 03 belt. The drive teeth are larger on the 04. E-mail me if your interested in a excellent conditon 03 belt. Hope this helps, Sam |

The Belt, front and rear pulleys, the front pulley cover, the tensioner (it's slightly longer)and just one lower belt guard. (it looks better with none but play it safe) edited by Sammigs on June 05, 2004 |

I don't know what the cost is now. I purchased everything from DaveS when he ran his special. I did order the polished rear pulley because it was slightly cheaper than the black. |

Sam, You might want to confirm all is well through entire range of rear suspension travel. The belt if it rubs against the brake line will carve into it pretty quickly. Realize also that the belt can vibrate up and down a bit, extending its envelope of interference with the brake line even more so than the larger pulleys and thicker belt do on their own. |

Theres about 3 inches of space between the belt and the brake line. It's about the same when compared to a 12. I've put at least twelve hundred miles on my bike and one track day. The other bike is used for the track only. Both belts and brake lines look great. In my opinion you really don't need the rear master cylinder and line to do the conversion. |

I was under the impression that it would make contact when the rear suspension is compressed(belt-rear m/cyl) |
