Way to go Misato. Be aware that the flat area you are starting on is the area most effected by heat while polishing and the most likely to warp or indent due to the large flat space. The new color (Orange) is starting to go on my bodywork as of last night. I still have a few bits and pieces to polish as well.

I never used anything rougher than 220 on the frame. It is really pretty smooth under the paint. Nothing at all like the swingarm. I hope to have my bodywork done by the weekend, so pics will be coming soon.

use a chemical stripper
messy but quicker n easier to get it unstuck
is that a 12 or a 9 airbox

Its a 9 airbox.
The 12 dont have the same routing for the vent tubes (that big circle piece in the middle on top)

Misato drilled his to get more air in

yeah, I used aircraft stripper on my other parts, but I could take them off and it took a good 3 applications of it to do it. I didn't want that much of a mess..
I'll probably end up using it for some spots up front tho.

Thats the stuff Misato is talking about and it does work, but its NASTY stuff, smell, and what it can do to things other than paint, hence his hesitancy to use it on the frame. Lotta elbow grease, but definitely a "safer" way to go.

Misato, can't wait to see it all done. You gonna paint it in the next month? BTW, how much did all the paint cost and how much more quantity and cost would it be for a firebolt over what you got? Mine's a 12R, and I'm thinking about painting it in a month or two. Let me know what you think of the Dupont chroma system.

I use stripper on the swingarm too. It took 3 or 4 coats. The paint Buell uses is tough stuff. You sure don't want to get that stripper on any plastic parts or on your skin. I think with a good sander you can do it in about the same amount of time considering you have to put stripper on, wait, scrape, etc. 3 or 4 times.

quart of base was 50$ which is 2 qts sprayable(1 qt of basemaker). that will do ALOT. You could probably get away with only getting a pint but I wanted extra.
Clear was $30 qt and $20 for activator
$150 for all the paint. That doesn't include the sealer+activator, which I'd say is about another ~$70
I rounded up on the $$ but its a good idea on cost.

back in the day, chromabase was all I used, its good stuff. I haven't used it in 6+yrs but its gotta be even beter now..!! (I hope)
if I could just remember who I gave my spray gun to...

My parts should be back in 2 weeks (a few more things polished and chromed -I found a cheap+GOOD polisher so I gave him some parts to do while I do the frame). maybe the weekend after this I'll paint?? then I could have everything done at the same time and GO RIDE!!!!!!!!!!

and I still need to sand and paint my garage floor!

I hate having it apart now that I have it back.. not much I can do about it tho
