OK, so you don't think the brakes on your XB are up to the job, how about a set of these little beauties for the road?

Carbon composite discs of just 250mm diameter, new lightweight front wheel, radially mounted lightweight anodised calipers and radial master cylinder. Plus your choice of road or race pads.

Apart from the obvious advantage of hugely improved braking, they also make the handling better (less unsprung weight) and the steering quicker (less disc diameter), as well as offering almost unlimited life on the street. What more could you want for just US$6000 for the front kit and a mere US$1350 for the rear.

And how would those extremely expensive front brakes affect the handling of the XB? The stock ZTL setup is a big part of the handling capabilities of the bikes, how is this compensated for with this new setup?

I know the factory disagree and went back to the ZTL setup for their race bikes, but we found that the handling and braking power of our race bike last year certainly improved with the fitting of twin normally mounted discs with radial calipers. These carbon ones just take the whole process further by reducing unsprung weight by up to 2kg for a front wheel (probably less on the Buell). The other thing that we found very noticeable on the XB was it's reluctance to turn in or trail brakes into a turn. We could only put this down to the large diameter front disc, as when we changed it for the twin setup the steering sharpened right up and you could brake hard right into the apex (in the dry of course!).

These carbon brakes are as far ahead of standard steel discs as they were from drum brakes of old. They are extremely expensive at the moment, but before long they'll be on everything......

Gimme a ZTL carbon rotor and you've got a sale (at some point).

That looks gay.... put another big rotor on the left side. Kills the point of it but that would be cool.

I don't particularly care what my brakes look like as long as the don't intrude into my field of view. Generally if they do I've got bigger problems : ).

Matt,
Do you know the total difference in weight between stock and your GP style carbon setup? It sure is trick.

Very, very nice, but I know for a fact that my ZTLs have more than enough braking power for street use. Just ask Joe sometime, who's nearly run me over several times on his M2!

Sure are nice looking, though!
