I commented in another thread that I'd racked up 15k+ miles and had never changed plugs. Shame on me!

This lead me to feeling bad, that I had been neglecting my ride, so I went out and bought some NGK DCPR8E plugs.

Removing the front plug is easy. I took off the three torx bolts holding the air scoop on. Makes it real easy to get a 5/8" wrench on the front plug.

For the rear plug, I removed the outer airbox cover (the cover with the big BUELL stickers on it - I know, which air box cover are you talking about ), and used a long 3/8" extension with a u-joint and a 5/8" spark plug socket and it fit nicely down into the pocket to remove the rear plug.

After 15k+ miles the plugs still looked good. The gaps measured about .039, and the edges of the electrodes were somewhat rounded, not crisp, but not eroded either.

The front plug looks like a classic example of what you'd expect one to look like from an engine that's tuned pretty good. The rear shows some signs that that cylinder runs a little hotter, which we all know it does, but they looked good.

So now I'm feeling all better about myself and my bike beings now it has a new set of sparklers , so I thought I'd share it here and offer a few "tips", as I'd not read about any tricks to changing these plugs. (I thought it was going to be a SERIOUS pain to get to get to the front plug, but it turned out to be easier than the rear).

Buell on!

Ski,

I always use the NGK's as replacements. I dunno if they're any better, but I just like em better than the Champions. I've always run them in my bikes, even my dirt bikes.

The HD branded Champions that I just replaced looked to be wearing very well, but they're still Champions... kinda like an oil thread I guess

Did you take off the front plug like I described? Or did you go in from under the a/c?
