Hey everyone,
Im found a dealer thats within driving distance whos selling this bike. Not many details on it...I like that its an SS and I like the uly seat but I want it to still have the handling of the SS so...

2007 xb12ss with 10,500 miles "10,000 Mile Service Completed. Includes Ulysses Handlebars, Tail Section, and Saddle. Spitfire Sport Shield."

I have a couple questions for you all:

-It says its an lightning long but its hard for my untrained eyes to really tell through the Uly seat and handlebars.Stock SS suspension?
-How to the pegs look to you? Are they uly pegs? I'd rather have the stock pegs.
-Damage on the Left side doesnt look too bad to me but the pictures arent that big...

overall, good buy?

Yep that really is a Lightning Long, with Uly seat, beak, fender, hand guards and handle bars. It still appears to be the stock SS suspension.

All the pegs and mounts are stock Lightning parts. The Ulysses ones are significantly lower and wider, and have different mounts.

That damage likely could have been avoided if he used frame pucks like those that are stock on the Ulysses. While it doesn't look bad, it significantly hurts the resale value as the frame is damaged and would cost over $1500 to replace.

If you can get it for $2000-2500 that would be a good buy, I wouldn't pay anything higher than that being that it is an 07, been heavily modified (who knows what other things like wiring have been butchered), and has a damaged frame.

Im glad you said that. I didnt realize that the damage would de-value the bike so much. The dealer is asking $4200 which sounded like a decent deal when compared with other lightning longs.
Ill have to call and talk to them to see if I can haggle them down to a more reasonable amount before I travel down there.

if you were to have that frame damage happen to the bike while in your possession, your insurance company would consider it totaled... it literally requires complete dis-assembly of the bike to fix.

that being said, it either has a salvage title, or the guy never reported it... which the salvage title also really effects the value of the bike. the fact that it will function perfectly fine has nothing to do with what real value on it is.

also, it is very common damage for an xb to have. once dented, many people fill the dent, repaint and away they go...

Kind of a cool setup, but there is a lot there to be worried about. It was obviously crashed... so was it a minor low side after he did the Uly conversion (as it looks now)? Or was it a major accident that destroyed the tail section, seat, bars, and flyscreen in addition to denting frame? Who knows. If it was a big crash, there can be major lurking problems (DAMHIK).

If you do buy it, buy it with the idea that you will run it into to ground and sell it for parts. That will be a hard one to sell (but may be a fun one to ride, it isn't far from an XB12XT).

Not to mention the crank failures of some '07s.
Not sure if it was just Ulysses that had bad cranks...

Nope, it was all the 12's. And while there is clearly a problem, keep it in perspective. The vast majority of 2007 12 motors are still running strong. I'd say the 08 and up oiling system is definitely worth paying more for, but I wouldn't pass up a good deal on a pre 08 bike.

Thanks for all the replies everyone.
What kind of wiring problems might I run into with a conversion like this? And wouldn't there have to be some modification of the subframe to mount the seat/tail?
