I know... the windshield looks a little goofy but it come off pretty easily and goes all the way up to my neck. It should provide good wind protection. It's a National Cycle StreetShield. Cost <$100 shipped and is made in the USA. The seat came off a 2005 XB9SX. It was stock on most years up through 2008. It's 1.3" taller than the stock 2009 "Skyline" seat. It's much softer and while it does compress a little when you sit on it (~1/4" @ my 170lbs), it's still much taller. I bought it to allow a little less bend in my knees (more seat to peg clearance) but I suspect it will also soak up a little more of the pot holes too. I got it used, like-new for $60. "All" that's left is to raise the bars. Stock brake line is too short (32"). I found HD part # 45156-89D is 34", it's a late 80's big twin rear hose. I ordered a Russell brand braided version. New, Ebay for $30. The cables and wiring looks like it can go up ~2". I'm not sure which I'm going to try yet. |

Just went for a short ride.... I don't know if the seat will help with the knees but it certainly makes a difference with soaking up bumps. The windshield also makes a huge difference with highway. At 75mph (the fastest I went) it was comfy with no significant wind pressure on me. There is a gap between the stock flyscreen and the bottom of the windshield that lets in just enough air to prevent a low pressure area between rider and windshield but hopefully not enough of a gap to let rain in. |
