I have a new 09 XB12ss and took it for a spin today .Once warmed up the cooling fan comes on and runs constantly at speeds over 15mph,under power or coasting .As soon as the speed drops under 15 mph it stops.I would speed up and brake above and below 15mph and the fan would start and stop everytime. Todays temp was about 60 degrees. Is this normal for a new not broken in bike to do and does the fan have a speed sensor too ? My 03 XB9s only fans when really hot . Just curious about this. |

The latest ECM flash controls the fan based on both engine temp and bike speed. See some of the threads on the Uly Rider Comfort Kit for more info. |

The fan on my 09 xb12ss would come on pretty regular until I got my 1K service and switched to synthetic oil. After that it came on a little less frequently until I installed a RSS...now it hardly ever comes on. It is getting cooler here, so that is probably factoring in...I'm moving to Las Vegas in Jan/Feb, we'll see how it holds up to the heat out there next summer! |

It is the newest fan program. I had the program loaded into my 08 XB12R. It is the best thing to happen to the bike. It made summer riding so much better. No more burned thighs. The fan barely runs after shut off. It is not very noticeable while riding. On the down side, cold weather riding is definitely colder. |

09 Scg, fan ONLY comes on when I stop the bike. I use full synth oil and have a Jardine exhaust... no RSS... |

Why would the program turn the fan on over 15mph and turn it off under? It should be the opposite. Uly big RSS should cool it down a lot but I have an 09 and don't notice this 15mph thing. Mine just comes on when its hot, which is either hard riding at 30+mph (deep in the power band) or under 15mph riding. With the new RSS it essentially doesnt come on though. Thats with Syn3 (ran synthetic, no difference). |
