i don't think that there were any changes that would prevent it, but can anyone confirm whether or not a 2008 Uly motor will bolt into a 2005 Scg chassis?

Singarms are different, entire electrical system is different. It will work if you get all the right bits like a 08+ XB12S wiring harness with ECM. I believe the fittings are different on the swingarm, so you might need to make custom oil lines.

You will probably have to change the dashboard too, they are different on the 08 models.

cool, that's what i thought. any idea what all i would need to make the swap as smooth as possible?

ECM / wiring harness probably required...
dash is different? hmmm... any reason the old one wouldn't work?

oil system parts? just lines, you think?

what about the 2005 headers? should work, right?

anything else?

YEah right

08 and 05 Swing arms are different so are the oil lines that feed it...

Your Swing arm will FIT, not sure IF the oil lines will though may be different etc..Better check that out First But could always make that work no worries.. But your Question will it bolt in... is YEs

But may need to do other things to do so...

the reason for the question...

instead of rebuilding the motor in my '05 1203, i know someone with a salvage '08 Uly looking to part out. if the money can be worked out, it may be the way to go.

Personally I would stick to an 04-07 XB12 motor if possible.

The dash is different, I don't know if its cross compatible or not. Like I said before, EVERYTHING electrical is different on the 08 bikes. You would also need the 08 throttle body, and 08 cables. More I think about it, the more that needs to be replaced. Pretty much everything short of the headlights.

If you do go for it, be sure to document and post the progress on here.

thanks for the info, guys... i kind of thought that it would be that way. if i wanted to just keep replacing every little piece, it would be easier to just rebuild the motor i've got. or find the same vintage motor, as you suggest Froggy.

i thought that 2007 was the first year of the new cases. was it 2008?

Chasten- what kind of shape is the wrecked Uly in? Rather than swap the engine, you could buy it whole and swap parts over from your bike to make it rideable. There have been a couple of hybrid S/X's built out there.
