Well, this probably doesn't really count as an introduction since I've owned an XB before, but I was away from the family for a short period of time after I totaled my XB9S at Summit Point last year and ended up riding a VFR800. Luckily, the VFR is behind me...

At any rate, I found a clean 2005 XB12S which later turned out to be an XB12SCG when I showed up to buy it. Short story is I found the bike on craigslist with 8700 miles on it for $3900. I drove up with cash sight unseen to buy only to see that it's the CG model. Not what I was looking for (was looking for a Firebolt, but would have gladly ridden a standard Lightning)...but I'll have to deal with it.

So, it looks like I either have to swap suspensions or consider trading bikes with someone who wants it. Not sure which, but I definitely need a taller bike (ground clearance AND seat height).

Anyway, the old:

And the new:

Well... with a different seat the ergos are exactly the same as a regular S.

As for ground clearance.. yeah, you'd need suspension and the two other bits.

I'd get a standard seat and try that first.

Oh and welcome back : )

My 05 was an SCG but I found another badwebber close enough with a city X who wanted my suspension. It was a pretty easy swap. Took about 3 hours I think.

Iam 5'9" but wanted the longer suspension travel. It does seem more comfortable even though Iam on the balls of my feet.

Yeah, the seat will be an easy fix, but I want/need more suspension travel. Based on my recent zip tie trial, I use up more travel that I'd like during normal riding. May as well find the proper forks and then re-spring them and all during the winter.

Good to be back on a Buell, though!

How much do you miss your XB9S? Enough to consider a swap for a never-down, clean title, '03 XB9S with similar miles, race kit (Air filter, ECM, and Pipe), Crossroads 0 degree bars, spare (new) belt, stock bars, stock pipe, stock ECM, factory service manual, and factory parts manual?

Thanks guys, but no thanks on swapping for a 9. Been there, done that. I like my new found torque. I just need more ground clearance...

Don't forget the forks on the Scg are only 41mm vs. the 43mm on the standard Lightning. Also the rake if different.

Good luck on finding a trade. Suspension travel is the one thing I long for on my Scg. But it's a trade-off I had to make to put my feet flat on the ground.

I bet you will find someone that will swap their regular suspension.
I helped Jackelfox from Badweb do this exact swap and it was a piece of cake.

Yeah, I'm aware of the diameter change. I'll try looking around here for some short riders, lol.

Too bad you're way the hell in NY or i would take you up on a swap.
I will probably hand my XB9S down to my gf when she's ready to move up from the Blast, but she'll want a low/cg version.
It would be the perfect excuse to get an 1125CR for me.

I don't think you'll have to look long to find someone willing to trade.

Actually, I've since moved to PA...I'll need to update that. AL isn't that far away...

I'll have to make a post looking for a swap donor.}

That suspension on the SCG looks PAINFUL!

I just had my suspension profesionally dialed and put a tie wrap on there to see how low it gets from riding.

Panic stopped the other day to keep from hitting a downed rider, rear tire came up (stopped FAST) and the suspension only came down to maybe an inch or an inch and a half lower then yours is, and your not even sitting on it! Let alone, panic stopping.

Talk about short travel!

Yeah, the suspension travel is minimal at best. Good for general purpose ride and shorter riders...but not for me. It does look cool, though.
