I decided to enter the XB12R in the 10th Annual Riding Into History Concours d' Elegance at World Golf Village today. The honored marque this year was classic American motorcycles. I signed up for the modern competition class (1985-2009). There were four bikes entered- Aprilia RS250GP1, Honda NSR50R, Ducati 999R Xerox, and my XB12R. The other three bikes were beautiful- shiny, polished, not a fingerprint to be found... just perfect. I had not washed my bike since the track day at Jennings GP on Monday. The XB had brake dust, balled up rubber everywhere, bug splatters, and other assorted imperfections. Also, the other three bikes had racing slicks- I was sporting the original Diablos... but mine were the only ones worn all the way to the tire edge. I figured I had a good chance for an honorable mention. Results: Award of Merit went to the Ducati 999R Xerox, First in Class to the '08 XB12R. I guess the judges appreciated the "realness" of my bike. I was awarded the trophy by Craig Vetter and Dennis Gage- which was a treat in itself. Dennis filmed an episode of "Trippin on Two Wheels" while attending this event, so I'll be on the lookout for that. It was a really good day- I'm so proud. I had the only Buell in the show, and it did attract attention (almost as much as the Ducati parked next to it). But, in the end, I believe the XB won because it had something the other bikes lacked- character. I hope to post some pics tomorrow. |

Here are the pics...
I hope to get the photo from the award ceremony with Craig Vetter and Dennis Gage. I chatted with Dennis (before winning) and he really liked the XB. He said the only Buell he has ever ridden was a Ulysses that they did a test on- he was impressed. Definitely a proud day as a Buell owner. |

Heh, your bike is probably the only one that has seen a racetrack. Also, probably why it won . Excellent pictures, and congrats again! |

Congrats on the award. I'm in Jax and I had to miss the bike show this year. I love the classic bikes on display, it's definitely an event worth attending. |

In a world of Supermodels, its nice to see the "ugly betty" (as defined by your average big 4/exotic owners tastes) win one for the team. CONGRATS!!! |

Now that right there is cool. All 4 bikes are sweet machines and just maybe the judges realize that a nice bike is closer to perfect if someone rides it. What a cool post. Thanks for sharing!! |

Xb12mel, I'll modernize it for you. "Ballin!" That is really cool though, I've always been a fan of Ducati's but in those pictures the Buell does stand out way more. |
