So I just got finished removing the powdercoat from my center tail section on my 12S. I used gasket remover, worked wonderful, some pretty flipping harmful stuff. And about ready to polish it. I am debating on doing the seat rails also. Somewhere I seen one of the sponsors selling polished seat rails, thought it was americansportbike.com but can't find them. Anybody know who sells them? Also, I heard somewhere that someone attempted to polish theirs but the bare metal wasn't too pretty and just chromed them. Has anyone polished theirs, any thoughts? or Tips? Did you clear coat them to prevent oxidization? |

American sport bike has the polished rails for sure! Not sure if I've ever actually seen anything shinier than the brake rotors on a Buell before though. Headlamps, maybe. Close call though. Careful with the chrome, I hear it's addicting! |

I saw a Firebolt on ebay a few months ago that had what looked like a polished frame. Is that possible or was it chromed? |

I polished my tail. I sandblasted the tail hand sanded down to 2000 grit and polished it with aluminum polish on a buffer at Toona shop. I didnt use any clear, just once in a blue moon I'll use mothers and polish it up

Clear coats will discolor the aluminum (turn it kind of yellow). This is why when an car maker coats machined-faced wheels, they use a plastic instead. I know this from being told so when I worked in a repair shop, not experience, so correct me if I'm wrong. |
