I don't know that that qualifies as "fuel in frame"...more like "frame in fuel tank" lol.

SF I believe that bike has a trellis type frame under that tank or whatever you would like to call it, however still a nice machine for its era and probably run with a lot of new bikes and all the technology that goes into them.

Buell's are not the first bikes to have fuel in frame, nor perimeter disc brakes, nor belt tensioners; they are the only mass produced street bikes to have them however.

>>>they are the only mass produced street bikes to have them however.

And the first to make the systems work in a beneficial manner to the degree that Buell was able to get the FIRST patents on such things.

Kawasaki KR500
Ossa 250 GP racer
lots of various hillclimbers
old dragsters
There's more that I cannot remember.

Let not forget, there's more to motorcycling than Buell...

I figure it's safe to say that Buell was the first to put the fuel in the frame with one of the primary intentions being the centralization of the mass of the tank and the fuel. Most of the other designs did it because it was convenient.

Visit the Wheels Through Time museum and see all the crazy things that were done with bikes before 1940. Belt drive, inline 4, multi valve, multi carb, multi cylinder, multi sparkplug, fuel in frame, oil in frame... lots of wild stuff and most (all?) of the bikes at WTT still run.

Wheels Through Time... is that the museum in Maggie Valley? If so, I went to that years back... cool place, and beautiful location.

Yup, started by the previous owner of Dale's HD in Mt Vernon, Il which apparently carried Buell before HD bought them.

Very few are "new" ideas, but rather improved upon ideas. The underslung exhaust in not new either. Personally I'm waiting for someone to improve upon the front wheel hub mounted radial engined motorcycle.?!
