That is what I was asked today when I took the front wheel to get balanced at the local Metric dealer (15 min away)rather then going to the Harley dealer (1 hr 15 min)away. "Who makes Buell" "Buell" "You mean Harley" "No, Buell" "You wanna get technical" "No, Buell makes Buell" Then they charge $22.50 to balance the front tire. F%*@ So I have decided from now on to change and balance my own tires. C. |

In all honesty though, HD does make the XB motors at the Capitol Drive Motor Plant and HDI owns Buell and HD. So it wasn't like he was coming from outter space. |

The serious... "Oh, technical! Ok, Buell manufactures SOME of their bikes with engines and transmissions manufactured by Harley, though they also offer a Rotax-engine based bike, the same engine as Aprilias use. Buell is a subsidiary of HD but they maintain separate manufacturing and design facilities. And actually Harley and Buell are ownerd by HDI." or the smartass... "Oh, technical -- well then...Elves made it." (For this one to work you have to keep a straight face and not explain who the Elves are!) Hey, at least he didn't insist it was French and pronounced Bu-Ell! I swear, everyone is a god damn expert. (Message edited by retrittion on June 20, 2008) |

To cringblast's defense he has a point. Every vehicle out there has parts that another vehicle of a different brand has. That’s like saying Mazda doesn't make Mazda ford does. You don't call a Lincoln LS a ford Lincoln LS just because it is its parent company. At least I don't. I think that just because Harley owns the line doesn't mean that it is a Harley motorcycle. If you look up the parts for the bike do you say "I'm looking for a Harley Buell XB9R part"? Just my two cents. |

I like to use this comeback when someone says that Harley makes Buell: me: "Who makes Jaguars?" them: "Jaguar!" me: "But they're owned by Ford and some of them use Ford engines." Either they see my point or they start going around telling Jag owners they have a Ford. |

No, the 1125r does NOT use the same engine Aprilia uses. It may be manufactured by the same company, but it isn't the same engine. |

If you buy a Chevy, Lincoln or Dodge, is it ok to wear a GMC, Ford or Chrysler hat? If somebody asked you if Buell was a Harley product, what would you say? No? That wouldn't be true. |

John, Then a HD is a Buell product!! John who do you think designed our beloved XB engine,HD??? Or do you think Erik,Henry Duga and a host of others??? Buell is Buell and it has its own CEO. HD own's it but it is a seperate biz. |

I mad the mistake of taking my Buell to Mobile Bay Harley to get a new front tire. I got screwed by the local import dealer on my last tire change. The guy at the HD dealership told me they didn't work on Buells. "Not even to mount a f***ing tire??!!" I felt like slugging him right in the mouth. Luckily when I went across the street to the import dealership, my head still steaming in anger, I ran into a gsxr rider that told me about a good independent shop and even led me there on his bike. They ordered the tire and gave me a free static balance and mount. (Message edited by not_purple_s2 on June 21, 2008) |

When Buell buys HD then yes, I'd say that's true. Where is that beloved motor made and endurance tested? East Troy? I'm not saying that Buell is made by HD and has Buell decals tossed on them. I'm say that ignoring the fact that HD owns and is a part of Buell is wrong. |

I quote my old HARLEY DAVIDSON investors booklet..... "No one understands the family of Harley-Davidson riders better than the people who comprise the Harley Owners Group (H.O.G.) and the Buell Riders Adventure Group (BRAG®). With nearly 900,000 members worldwide, H.O.G. is the foundation of an extended family of riders and, like BRAG, gives enthusiasts loads of reasons to ride. These groups offer members a wide array of events, rides and member benefits that increase their enjoyment of riding. This is the Harley-Davidson family. Everyone is welcome." |

John BRAG doesn't exist any longer. I'm very educated in how Brag/HOG work's and the rules. I was an BRAG club officer for years and attended POT training 3 years of it. Do not mix Brag and HOG they tried to get it to work and it failed. To totally different people and English's. John F. sell's the idea's basically of the design's to HD for approval to keep Buell a success and Erik makes sure the products designed by him and the Elves are the product we love and enjoy now. As far as that engine being field tested by HD I wouldn't doubt that,so what. Who's engineering is it??? |

The point is Dana..."Welcome to the Harley Davidson Family". My book was from 2004. The XB motors are edurance tested at the PDC and built at the plant right in front of it. The XB project also used Harley Employees and Engineers, "volunteered" to Buell during its conception and development. Where's the Marketing dept? HD's Juneau Ave facility....Where are Buells sold? Harley dealerships...Who does the Financing? EagleMark Credit, a HDI financal company. Harley does have alot to do with the making, marketing and selling of Buell. |

By the way Jaguar is owned by an Indian company now (Tata, no not Tata's, but "Tata"). Ford sold it some 6 months ago... Since HD/BMC is a publicly traded company I can actually say; "Why, I own Buell!" Long live capitalism! |

I don't think anyone is questioning who has financial control of the company. It's more of who designed and engineers Buell. This is off the Buell Website.” Copyright 2008 Buell Motorcycle Company ("BMC"), 2799 Buell Drive, East Troy, WI 53120. All Rights Reserved." Looks like Buell makes the Buell to me. They can't help they need some extra cash from the H-D. |

Did you guys ever notice that our fuel injectors are Ford? I don't think it matters what company makes the parts, the Buell factory puts it all together and that's what makes it a bike, so therefore Buell makes Buells. I've customized mine to the point that you can't tell except by the sound and the handling that it's a Buell. Just ride it and enjoy it! |

DYNABEADS for balancing... last the life of the tire and no ugly weights... BUELL makes BUELL. Harleys have no after cooler fan, most do not have tuned exhaust, centralized muffler... nope, single disc front brake...negative, swingarm oil resevoir... uh uh, interactive valve in muffler, haven't seen one, and gas in frame..........come on guys... Buell makes Buell. it's strictly a financial relationship.Erik would have been stupid not to sell out to HD. Now he has pretty much unlimited $$$$ for R&D... If it's a Harley why the hell do the eyes of the service tech's at this dealer glaze over when I ask about serviceing a Buell.... TPS reset. Two days to find out it WAS AN HOUR of LABOR here...nope hot a harley |

"Buell makes Buell. it's strictly a financial relationship." "Harleys have no after cooler fan, most do not have tuned exhaust, centralized muffler... nope, single disc front brake...negative, swingarm oil resevoir... uh uh, interactive valve in muffler, haven't seen one, and gas in frame..........come on guys... " Excellent point that's helps me make mine Darth, thanks. Where does the money come from? Who gives the financial backing for research that allows for "interactive valves"....."gas in frame"...."centralized muffler"? Where does the majority of motors for our Buells come from? I think we can al agree that without Harley, the XB's and 1125 probably wouldn't exist. Buell isn't a company on it's own that simply writes a check to HD every month. EVERY THING THEY DO MUST BE OK'd, SUPPORTED and FUNDED by HARLEY. Harley owns Buell, when it comes to shareholders and quarterly earnings, Buell needs to do their share and Harley is going to direct Buell to do just that. Its all about the money. If Harley wanted to drop "Buell" as a name and produce the bikes all as Harley's..its in their right to do it. What would you do then? Would you still buy a Uly with no "Buell" on it? "This is the Harley-Davidson family. Everyone is welcome." (Message edited by buellinachinashop on June 21, 2008) |
