Kevin Drum the builder of Drummer Muffler just last week informed me that a local shop turned his front rotor. Give him a call, (828) 324-9991 or KDfab.com |

Paul, take the wheel off and clean the heck out of the rotor with a scrub pad and hot soapy water. Replace the stockers with Lyndal Gold pads and it will be fixed. The stock pads are prone to build up and makes it feel like a warped rotor. Mine does it too (stock pads) but once it starts surging squeeze harder and it goes away. One these pads are close to being done I'm switching over. |

You might have the same problem many of us on Uly's have been dealing with. The stock pads will make the front brake pulse like crazy. When it gets to a certain point it won't matter if you are braking easy or hard it will pulse wildly. To test this try putting some brake cleaner on a rag and wiping both sides of the rotor clean with it. If the pads are suspect, you will get a couple hundred miles out of the cleaning job with out the pulse. The cure for most has been to replace the pads with the Lyndall Gold pads and do the proper break in procedure. You will swear you will have to turn the rotor, but this really works. |

Paulxb12r - It isn't that the pads themselves are bad. It is that they leave uneven deposits on the rotor. The Lyndals seem to be able to clean this up. To answer your specific question, I do not believe that you can turn the rotor. I'm not sure why you can't, but I've never heard of it being done. Perhaps it is too thin. American Sportbike does sell a hone for refinishing the rotors. It would probably fix the problem. edit: The tool Damnut posted a picture of looks like what American Sport Bike sells. And, from reading above, apparently at least one person has turned a Buell rotor. (Message edited by jlnance on June 11, 2008) |

Yes it is the same one that Al sells. I wanted to buy one from him but he didn't have any in stock at the time. I ended up buying it on EGay. |

Interesting, I didnt realize the stock pads could cause this issue. I have been planning on getting a new rotor for mine because the front brake pulses pretty bad when lightly on the brakes. Will try cleaning them up now |

The stock pads are prone to build up and makes it feel like a warped rotor. I just did that this weekend and it feels like a new bike. I was worried I'd have to shell out for a new rotor. |

I thought my disk was warped.... My front end would shake and pulse when braking.. Got Lyndals.... After proper brake in and a couple days of riding, no more shake... Even if you don't like lyndalls, I could see buying a sets to throw on once or twice a year to clean the rotor? |

Just jumping back to Paulxb12r's original post. Both front and rear rotors on the XB are Blanchard ground for flatness from the factory. Take a close look at the center portion of the rear rotor and you will see the spiral lines from the rotary table that is used to grind them. I don't see any reason why you couldn't have them ground flat again, similar to the way you would re-cut a car rotor. Most local machines shops would know a shop that has a rotary grinding table. Don't know what it would cost though. Anyway, just a thought. Pete |

Nik, Thanks for the link... I thought of going to Lyndall's site after I asked the question... DOH! I found the Lyndall Gold pads on our site, and have edited the fitment in our admin tools, however the changes won't roll until morning. Anyways, here's a link to the pads: http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/search/search.jsp?searchString=buell+lyndall&resultType=subCategories Our part number is #1901679 for the Front XB9SX (and other models that use the same), and the rear is: #1901680. Here's direct links: http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=1901679 http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp?skuId=1901680 Ben (Message edited by bcarlson on June 12, 2008) |

the brake pads are not the only problem. the main problem with the front brake is the piece of junk stock front master cylinder! I bought a used front mastercylinder lever assembly from a cbr 954rr and installed a remote resivor. at least 100 times better than stock! no fade,no pulsing and I can panic stop using my pinky finger. and I am still using stock brake pads, but I have purchased a set of Ferodo Sintered HH pads for front and rear. |
