I've had both--a Drummer, and a Spec Opsthe Drummer has excellent sound and fit/finish are second to none..AND you can use the race ECM--$400.00.....Spec ops has DUAL outlets, with cheese grater pipe over the actual outlets, (looks trick) sound is a little quieter, but still pleasing, fit and finish may not be on par with Drummer, but who can tell when it's installed? and you CAN NOT use the race ECM, because of the interactive valve....$250.00.

I agree with Mr_gto. Calling a Spec Ops pipe a "pseudo-Drummer" is just plain stupid. Might as well call our bikes "pseudo-Reitwagens", since Buell certainly isn't the first to put an engine in a two wheeled chassis. And since Buell did it a long while after Daimler-Maybach, well then Buell must have copied them!!!

No, it doesn't work like that. Just because somebody else decided to modify Buell mufflers after KD, doesn't mean they're copying him, or even trying at all to make their mufflers like his. To insinuate otherwise is just stupid.

point_doc might be better off making his own pipe with that kind of experience...

Some people take themselves waaaay too seriously.

Retrittion,

I will confess that my “work environment" is black/white, based on numbers and any grey could be a disaster.

Arm wrestling; if we where to set down at a table together, I would prefer to share a beer with you and forget the rest.

If an “original thought" could be shown concerning the Spec-Ops muffler, I would reconsider my position. Here’s what I am considering:

1 Using the OEM can for testing and modification: Drummer
2 Having “two” exhaust outlets on the OEM cam: Buell race muffler
3 Usage of an “exhaust value": Buell/OEM

Mr_gto,

By the observations that I stated previously.

If an “original thought" could be shown concerning the Spec-Ops muffler, I would reconsider my position. Here’s what I am considering:

4 Using the OEM can for testing and modification: Drummer
5 Having “two” exhaust outlets on the OEM cam: Buell race muffler
6 Usage of an “exhaust value": Buell/OEM

NO I WILL NOT KEEP MY UNEDUCATED OR EVEN EDUCATED THOUGHTS/OPINIONS TO MY SELF!

Zpyro,

Well, what can be said with the name calling? Buell has demonstrated “original thought", that is one of the appealing qualities of the bike.

Skullym1,

The metal work that is required to modify the OEM or even manufacture one from scratch is having a good understanding of sheet metal work. Yes I could perform this task but I am not inclined to do so. There is more to a muffler than just shaping metal, there needs to be research done on the air flow and because I work in the Engineering Dept. at a University, I do have the resources available for this but again I am not inclined to perform this task.

And for the statement, “Some people take themselves waaaay too seriously." I am not sure I qualify for this.

What I do take seriously is:

1 Being a good husband for 23 years and spending time with my girlfriend of 26 years.
2 Being a good father/parent for two beautiful children that are 21/20.
3 Providing for my family.
4 Creating a productive environment for the success of my children.
5 Working towards my third degree.
6 Maintenance around the home.
7 And if I do have time for me, I ride.

Thank you,

Paint_shaker,

I believe the point of my discussion was on Spec_Ops and the converting of the "OEM muffler". If the discussion deviates from this then most likely I'll not respond, especially from such a general question as you have asked.

By your logic, any can that is a modified stock can is a pseudo-drummer because the Drummer was first. I ain't buying that logic!

Just because the Drummer was available before the Spec Ops, doesn't make the Spec Ops a pseudo-drummer.

The only thing they share in common is the use of a stock can. Unless you have proof otherwise, it would be wise not to accuse someone of stealing another's work. Perhaps you should check your moral compass.....

from Spec Ops
"I purchased my 2004 XB12S in June of 2004 and was completely satisfied with the performance and handling of the bike. What I wanted was more sound without losing any power or torque. I purchased a few pipes on Ebay and starting working a few internals around to see what I could come up with. I ran my first pipe (an XB9 pipe) on my XB12 and was happy with the results but felt I could get more out of it. I also wondered if the Interactive Exhaust Valve could be retained since it did such a good job in the stock configuration. After reworking some XB12 pipes I settled on the current version."

KD Fab's site mentions KD working on Buells before the XBs came out.

Regardless, Odie did his stuff completely independent of KD.

Point doc, you completely avoided my post. Name calling who?? I know what makes a Buell appealing, that's why I own one. That has nothing to do with calling someone a wannabe anything, just because they did something similar to someone else later on. As I said, to think so is just stupid.

As for your points:
1 Using the OEM can for testing and modification: Drummer
2 Having “two” exhaust outlets on the OEM cam: Buell race muffler
3 Usage of an “exhaust value": Buell/OEM

All of the above: Special OPS. Odie didn't use the Drummer can as a reference point, therefore you cannot say, by any means, that he ripped them off, tried to copy them, tried to make a "pseudo-Drummer," or any other asinine statements like that

Point doc, so if I use your logic, KD/ Drummer stole their idea from Buell then. Right?

How about this:

The Drummer and SpecOps mufflers are aftermarket designs derived from the OEM stock Buell XB muffler, both being developed independently by people looking to improve on the stock XB muffler performance and sound (and maybe looks as well). There is no evidence that either party used the other's product during their design process and both have brought to market solid offerings that are the top tier mufflers for the XB12 motorcycle. This is impressive since several major muffler/full exhaust manufacturers have also brought products to the market and have as yet failed to surpass the performance of either Drummer or SpecOps. As a side benefit both products use the XB muffler from current owner's bikes for the conversion, an ecologically wise production method that saves material and resources and reduces waste.

High-fives all around!

(I'm saying this so we can move on since we all ride Buells and we don't need to be ticked at each other. Remember, Batman and Superman are friends! )
