Have about 600 miles on my xb9sx, and i've noticed that at steady throthle crusing around town 3-4 gear 35-45 miles with NO LOAD on motor there is loud ticking noise coming from the engine. Do all these motors do this, its not a knock , just a very loud ticking, and if i get on the throthle at all it goes away. Maybe im not use to the loudness of these motors, cuz i've only had suzuki bikes. Im only under warrentee til june, so didn't want to bring it in if they are all loud.

probably just valvetrain nose. when it stops ticking it has a problem, kinda like a clock. you may wanna check the primary chain just in case, but i'd say it's normal engine noise.

I would take it to a dealer, get a repair order, and have them listen to it. They probably won't charge you for this, but ask first.

Then, if you DO have an issue, you will have a record of this issue beginning during the warranty period. This won't give you lifetime coverage, but if something is wrong, you'll likely know soon enough, but probably out of warranty, and having it noted on a repair order is good leverage. Buell is known to do anything they can to help you, sometimes (sometimes, not always) even out of warranty.

You can, since you're still in warranty, spring for the extended warranty, too.

Good call on a dealer visit.

But, It sounds completely normal to me. I have around 10k on my 03 9s and she ticks like crazy at 35-45 in 4th. As soon as I put the screws to her she quiets right down, maybe the race can I hear more though, LOL.

I also have an 04 12s with 1k on the odo, the more miles I put on her the noisier she gets, and the better she runs.

Gotta remember, we have pushrods, our motors sound like a sock full of nickels in the dryer when they run the best.

Ballon78, I am "rather" new to the buell world as well, also owning suzuki's.
I have two XB's and they both make that racket, it scared me too, actually still does. I have asked the same question to two dealers near me, and they say "I dont hear anything." so it must be rather normal. I have posted the same question, here in fact and this is the best advice I can give you, check you primary chain, I am awaiting a free weekend were I can do it myself.
It still scares me, the noises that come from under me, but so far I have had no problems on either bike.

They all make quite a bit of valve train racket. Ear plugs help.

Rods + rockers + valves = ticks...but it never hurts to ask a 'professional', particularly if your bike is still new and under warranty.

My XB9R makes a god-awful valvetrain racket, which became much, much more noticeable when I opened the airbox up (like, oh...18000 miles ago?)...but it's just part of its character.

I agree with everyone else, its most likely normal noise coming from an air cooled pushrod engine.

My advice. Buy an aftermarket exhaust and drown out the ticking with thumping. And just ride!

I was about to post the same question. I thought it was the fuel injectors I was hearing. My mustangs fuel injectors tick, but you can't hear them while driving.
