I just watched Monk on USA, the Christmas episode... At the climax of the show, Monk is chasing the "Bad Santa" across the festivities, where Santa pulls a fellow Bueller off of his XB12R and tries to use it as a getaway ride.

Lots of cool shots of the bike during the big fight scene. Almost like a product endorsement! Either way the bike was clean and sounded good.... could that have been a Drummer?

Just thought I would mention it.

...Buells on TV, ahhh must be Christmas!

What color was the bike? It could not have been a black one or he would have gotten away!

I understand that companies pay a premium to have their products place in show and movies. They even pay extra if it's prominently featured or used by a character.

From what I understand, advertisers are having more and more trouble reaching an attentative audience during commercials, so they are increasingly placing products in the show to make an impression. Probably been going on since TV was invented, but I did notice in a 'Heros' episode earlier this year that the dad gave the cheerleader chick a Nissan Murano, and they made a big deal about it. Must have worked, 'cause I remember the car from the show.

...oh yeah, 'Blade 3' also had Buell's in it and one of the characters was wearing a Buell shirt while playing basketball. I wonder what BMC has budgeted for that sort of thing. I don't think product placement is a bad idea, I'm just curious.

Yeah, I spotted that too in Ghost Rider!

There is also a "Lightning-Bolt" in the movie This Christmas ridden by the star of the movie Chris Brown.

Either way, I like the exposure.

I went back and watched Monk on the DVR again...

I was going through my email on the laptop while watching the show, and missed it the first time. Cool to see the XB on TV.

Companies cut different deals and there is always someone hanging out at Buell offering a deal like . . . "you provide 3 bikes and if we place them in INSERT DETAILS HERE, we get to keep the bikes" or stuff like that.

The deals have many of the components of the "Buell should give me a INSERT MODEL to make the epic motorcycle ride to INSERT VENUE" deals.

The placement deal is better. Anything you do with a "given" bike is tainted and there is nothing that makes better copy than the owner on his own bike. I've had lots of factory bikes but every time I've done any sort of "significant" ride I rode something I owned.

I still think Buell's best placement was Super Bowl XIII.

<super>

It's a good thing I am helping Court on this book thing. He is getting confused in dotage ;)

We can't reveal details-the publisher wants to sell books-we are supposed to drop teases on a regular basis to get everyone all steamed up ;)

I'm still ticked that Dave got to be the centerfold . . . 3 more weeks of tofu and that Speedo would have fit me!
